Yue Huairang, chief reporter of The Paper
The surging news reporter learned from the China Pharmaceutical University that Mr. Liao Qingjiang, a member of the China Democratic League, an expert enjoying special government allowances, a professor and doctoral supervisor of China Pharmaceutical University, and a famous steroidal medicinal chemist in China, died on November 17, 2020 at the age of 97 due to ineffective medical treatment.

Introduction of China Pharmaceutical University: Professor Liao Qingjiang has loved the medical cause of the motherland all his life, and his teaching is rigorous and taught by example. Adhere to the combination of production, education and research, and strive to develop steroid drugs for the country and cultivate pharmaceutical talents. It has developed 12 new drugs pioneered in China and have been put into production, and has made outstanding achievements in the development and utilization of steroid resources and the localization of steroid drugs in China, and has made significant contributions to the research and development of steroid drugs in family planning and reproductive health.
He was awarded the honorary title of Nanjing Model Worker in 1987, the commendation certificate issued by the Ministry of Health in 1989, and the Family Planning Drug Research Center of the school under his leadership was rated as an advanced collective in scientific and technological work in national colleges and universities by the State Education Commission and the State Science and Technology Commission in 1990, and was rated as an advanced worker in family planning by the State Family Planning Commission in 1991. In 1994, he won the first prize of the First Wu Jieping-Paul Janssen Pharmaceutical Research Award in the Department of Medicinal Chemistry, and in 2001, he was awarded the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" National Key Science and Technology Research Program by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the State Planning Commission and the State Economic and Trade Commission for his outstanding achievements in the research and development of the benign prostatic hyperplasia therapeutic drug Epplett and its tablets, and in 2002 he was nominated by the Ministry of Education for the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award.
According to Mr. Liao Qingjiang's last wishes and the wishes of his family, everything about the funeral was simplified, and there was no funeral committee.
Life of Professor Liao Qingjiang
Professor Liao Qingjiang was born on January 7, 1924 in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, he became an exiled student from Nanjing to Sichuan via Wuhan, and the school and unstable learning environment at the middle school stage cultivated his ability to be good at self-study and the habit of thrift and thrift. In 1942, he was admitted to the National Pharmacy College in Chongqing to study pharmacy in a four-year program, and after graduating in 1946, he stayed on to teach at the school. He has been engaged in organic chemistry teaching, drug synthesis and new drug research, and master's and doctoral supervisors for 60 years. He served as the director of the Organic Chemistry Teaching and Research Department for 30 years, and cultivated and established a teaching team that is both good at teaching and scientific research. In 1958, summarizing the teaching experience accumulated in the long-term guidance of organic chemistry experiments, he compiled and published the "Organic Chemistry Experiments" teaching reference book, which is an experimental guide book that is well received by peers, teachers, students and readers. It has played a guiding role for young teachers, improving their effectiveness in guiding experiments, and for students, they have cultivated their thinking ability from theoretical guidance and practical integration. The characteristics of the book are the key to the success or failure of each experimental content in the book and related details, which are unreservedly and detailed annotations and explanations, so that students can understand and summarize the reasons for the success or failure of the experiment. In 1960, 1978 and 1985, he participated in the compilation of the textbook "Organic Chemistry" for pharmacy majors in higher medical colleges and universities nationwide (People's Medical Publishing House). In 1994, he edited the pharmaceutical professional planning textbook "Organic Chemistry" (3rd Edition, People's Medical Publishing House), which won the first Excellent Book Award of the State Administration of Medicine and the third prize of the 1997 Science and Technology Progress Award.
In 1963, he was sent by the university leaders to the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, under the personal guidance of the famous chemist Professor Huang Minglong, to study steroid chemistry, and engaged in original research on steroid drugs for more than 2 years. The teacher's teachings will never be forgotten, and it is clear that the purpose of researching new drugs is to serve the country and the people, and to do more practical things and say less empty words has since become his motto in research work.
For a long time, he has combined the training of graduate students majoring in medicinal chemistry, starting from the national conditions, with the goal of family planning, reproductive health and geriatric drugs, using domestic resources and organic synthesis technology, researching and developing steroid drugs and cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease drugs. In the past 40 years, he has been unremitting, arduous exploration and practical work, and has presided over and completed a total of 5 national key scientific and technological research topics and 12 national and provincial new drug research projects. Since the 1970s, according to the principle of combining teaching, scientific research and production, we have adhered to the combination of factory, learning and research to carry out the application of basic research and localization of synthetic new drugs, so that scientific and technological achievements can be transformed into productive forces as soon as possible. So far, a total of 12 new drugs have been pioneered and put into production in China, and 1 original innovative drug has been approved to start clinical research after the preclinical research has been completed. A total of 22 national and provincial scientific and technological achievements and awards have been recognized.
He loves the motherland, has always been serious and responsible for his own work, loves his post and dedicates himself to his work, is rigorous in his studies, teaches by example, is good at linking scientific research with reality, attaches importance to social benefits, and has made remarkable achievements in both talents and achievements, in 1987 he was awarded the glorious title of Nanjing Model Worker, in 1989 he was awarded the commendation certificate issued by the Ministry of Health, and the Family Planning Drug Research Center of the school led by him was rated as an advanced collective in scientific and technological work in national colleges and universities by the State Education Commission and the State Science and Technology Commission in 1990. In 1991, he was rated as an advanced worker in family planning by the State Family Planning Commission. In 1992, the State Council commended him for his outstanding contributions to the development of China's higher education and issued special government allowances to the present. In 1994, he won the first prize of the first Wu Jieping-Paul Janssen Pharmaceutical Research Award in the discipline of medicinal chemistry, and in 2001, he was awarded the "Ninth Five-Year Plan" National Key Science and Technology Research Program by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the State Planning Commission and the State Economic and Trade Commission for his outstanding achievements in the research and development of the benign prostatic hyperplasia therapeutic drug Eplet and its tablets.
