We have to start with the story of Xu Shiyou and his mother. In fact, Xu Shiyou was a great filial piety, born in a poor peasant family in Macheng, Hubei (present-day Xinxian County, Henan), his father died early, he and his mother were dependent on each other since childhood, and later joined the revolution, mother and son naturally rarely see each other. It was not until after liberation that life settled down, and Xu Shiyou took his mother to his side for support. But the old man did not adapt to life in the city, or returned to his hometown. Xu Shiyou, who was filial to his mother, asked his eldest son Xu Guang to return to his hometown to work and perform filial piety on behalf of his father. After the death of his old mother, Xu Shiyou did not see his mother for the last time due to work reasons, and felt deep regret and guilt.

In the 1950s, when Mao Zedong took the lead in signing and asking the central leading comrades to be cremated when they went, Xu Shiyou proposed that he should be buried after death and buried with his mother to fulfill his unfulfilled filial piety. Mao Zedong agreed to his request. After Xu Shiyou's death in 1985, Deng Xiaoping specially approved: "Handle it according to this, and do not take it as an example." But in order to eliminate the impact, the memorial service can only be canceled. Therefore, the funeral was held secretly after Xu Shiyou's death, and finally buried next to his mother. There is no inscription on the tombstone, only seven words "Tomb of Comrade Xu Shiyou".
