In ancient times, there was an emperor who also liked to play this trick, and he was Tang Muzong.

Emperor Muzong of Tang (795–824), originally known as Yu, was the third son of Emperor Xianzong of Tang. He was not pleased with his father and did not have the opportunity to become emperor. Emperor Xianzong was interested in favor of his second son, but was not supported, so he made Li You crown prince in 812.
Afterwards, Tutu Chengcui guessed that the emperor was dissatisfied with the new crown prince, so he actively operated for Li Yun. For this reason, Li Heng was very nervous, so he asked his uncle Guo Zhao, who told him to be "filial piety" and not to consider other things. This shows that they are fully prepared and are waiting for Xianzong to die. In the first month of 820, Emperor Xianzong "died violently", and Liang Shouqian and others immediately supported the crown prince to take the throne, which was Tang Muzong.

Tang Muzong was terrified during his reign as emperor, and as soon as he ascended the throne, he no longer had any scruples. He had just turned 26 at the time, and he was absolutely energetic if he wanted to show off his skills. But what he likes is indulgence, which is naturally incomparable.
During the funeral of Emperor Xianzong at the imperial court, Muzong showed great interest in amusement. After burying his father in May, he became increasingly unrestrained, often going out hunting with his cronies.
In June, empress dowager Guo moved to Xingqing Palace in Nannei, and Muzong led the attendants of the Six Palaces to feast at Xingqing Palace. After the banquet, he returned to the Right Army of The Divine Strategy, and gave great rewards to his loyal lieutenants and generals. After that, he would come to the Divine Strategy Left and Right Army every three days, and at the same time drive to Chenhui Gate, Nine Immortals Gate and other places, in order to watch the performances of the horns, acrobatics and other programs.
On the day of his birthday on July 6, he actually whimsically formulated a set of celebration ceremonies, but this time he was unanimously opposed by the ministers, saying that there had been no such practice since ancient times, and Tang Muzong had to give up.
After the celebration ceremony went bankrupt, Muzong decided to build a large number of civil engineering in the palace, and successively built palaces such as the Yong'an Hall and the Baoqing Hall, and during the construction, there was a rockery collapse incident, which crushed seven workers at once. But when the Yong'an Hall was completed, he watched hundreds of plays there and enjoyed themselves. He also set up a "secret banquet" with the noble lord of the middle palace for fun, and even his concubines had to participate. In addition, he also decorated the temples of Anguo, Ci'en, Qianfu, Kaixing, Zhangjing and other monasteries in the capital with heavy gold, and even specially invited Tubo envoys to watch.
In August, Muzong went to the fish algae pond in the palace and sent 2,000 people to dredge the water surface that had long been silted up during the Xianzong period. It took a month to open the pond water, and he immediately held a banquet in the Fish Algae Palace to watch the palace people racing by boat. At that time, it was just close to the Chongyang Festival, and he wanted to feast on the courtiers. Li Jue and others, who were serving as the retainers, rushed to the court to advise, saying: "Your Majesty has just ascended to Dabao, the year name has not yet changed, and Emperor Xianzong's garden is still new, if such a large banquet in the inner court is like this, I am afraid it is not appropriate." ”
Tang Muzong accepted it to his face, but he did not listen at all. On the day of the Chongyang Festival, he specially summoned all the relatives such as guo zhao's brothers, imperial court nobles, and princess horses to the Xuanhe Hall to drink and gather.
In November, Muzong suddenly issued an edict: "Tomorrow I will temporarily go to Huaqing Palace and return at sunset." ”
At that time, when the ethnic minorities in the northwest were invading the territory, Liang Shouqian, a lieutenant of the Shen ce army, felt that this matter was aggravated, so he advised him not to go. However, Muzong did not listen, and Liang Shouqian had to lead 4,000 people of the Divine Strategy Army and eight towns to protect, causing a very tense situation at the top and bottom.
When the imperial chancellor Li Dai and Chang Shu Cui Yuanliu saw that Liang Shouqian failed to persuade the emperor, he instead allowed the emperor to do what he wanted, and quickly knelt down outside the door of the Yanying Hall to ask for advice. Mu Zong said, "You have already decided, so don't bother me again!" ”
The counselor repeatedly advised, and Muzong finally could not resist everyone and said that he would not go. Who knew that early the next morning, he left the city from the fudao of daming palace to go to Huaqing Palace, and the honor guards of the lieutenants on the left and right of the Divine Strategy Army, as well as the envoys of the Sixth Army, the kings, and the horses and horses had to follow, and the group waited until it was very late before returning to the palace.
< h1 align="center" > (iii) accepts mistakes and is sincere</h1>
When the ministers saw that Mu Zong was really "having too much fun and wandering excessively," they kept writing letters of advice, and Zheng Qin and others even advised him: "Now that the border is tight and the situation is changeable, if there is an urgent military report on the front line, we must ask Your Majesty to decide." But how is it good not to know where His Majesty is? And you often play with the advocates, rewarding them without restraint, these money are the blood and sweat of the people, how can they get these rewards without merit! ”
Mu Zong was suddenly interested in such a recital, so he asked the prime minister, "Who are they who are they who make such a proposal?" ”
The Prime Minister said, "They are advisors, and their duty is to give advice to His Majesty." ”
Mu Zong then comforted Zheng Qin and the others, saying, "What you said is very reasonable, and I will follow your advice, and I hope that there will be more advice in the future." ”
Muzong's attitude suddenly took a sharp turn, and all the ministers were very happy. Who knew that MuZong did not mean to change, he felt that only when he was happy would he hold a banquet, and conversely, holding a banquet meant that there was something to be happy about, and he said to Ding Gongzhuo: "I heard that the hundred officials and secretaries of state often feast outside, which shows that the world is peaceful and the grain is abundant, and I feel very pleased." ”
Ding Gong said: "Everything has a degree, and once the degree is passed, it is not a good thing." The celebrities of the previous generation, encountering beautiful scenery on good occasions, or feasting on wine, or talking about poetry, are all elegant things. Since Tianbao, the customs of this dynasty have been extravagant, and the wine banquets have been enjoyed by noisy and indulgent. Those in high positions and in high power roared together with the servants of the yamen, without the slightest shame. The effect of the upper and lower levels is gradually becoming customary, which has caused a lot of drawbacks. ”
Mu Zong felt that Ding Gongzhuo's words were also reasonable, so he accepted it with an open heart.
<h1 align="center" > (4) go their own way, indulging in excessive "desire" to become a short-lived ghost</h1>
It was not until 822 that he played polo with eunuchs and others in the forbidden period. At this time, an internal official suddenly fell off his horse, as if he had been hit by an external object. Due to the urgency of the incident, Muzong also felt very panicked, so he stopped and went to the main hall to rest. Who knew that Mu Zong suddenly couldn't walk on his feet, a dizziness, and rushed to call the imperial doctor, and the result was diagnosed as a stroke. Muzong has been bedridden ever since.
After Muzong's stroke, his body has not recovered. At this time, he was still under thirty years old and could not enjoy life prematurely. According to his personality, he was naturally unwilling, so he asked the warlock to refine Dan for him in the hope of immortality.
The virgin Zhang Gao hurriedly said: "The fact of immortality is not credible, and no emperor in the past can live forever." Moreover, the elixir is poisonous, and if it is not good, it is harmful to the body. ”
Mu Zong also felt that Zhang Gao was telling the truth and expressed his willingness to accept it. However, as soon as he thought that he might spend the rest of his life in bed, and if he took the Dan medicine, he might be able to get out of bed, so he continued to order people to practice Dan. It was because of his greed for life that Muzong died in the first month of 824 at the age of 30. Muzong had the shortest lifespan compared to other Emperors of the Tang Dynasty before him.
I think that in the beginning, if he was willing to be humble and accepted, he would not be happy and sad, causing stroke. It was because he could not listen to advice that he died prematurely. Now, if some people only admit their mistakes and do not correct them, their official/age will be short.
