During the Republic of China, warlords divided the territory, and the chief executive of Nanjiang County was sometimes called the county chief, sometimes called the governor, and some were called the chief executive, which was collectively called the chief executive.

In February 1933 and April 1934, due to the warlords Tian Songyao and Liu Xiang successively launching a "three-way siege" and a "six-way siege" against the Chuanxia Su district, the Red Army withdrew twice from Changchi and Nanjiang in order to tighten its positions. During this period, the political power was replaced by the military by Zhou Wencheng, the commander of the Sichuan Army, Li Hongtao, and the regimental commander Xue Lianshen.
