Yangzi Evening News Network, June 9 (reporter Bo Yunfeng) On the morning of June 8, the opening ceremony of the "2017 World Ocean Day and National Ocean Publicity Day" kicked off at the Jiangsu Grand Theatre. General Zhu Wenquan, a 75-year-old former commander of the Nanjing Military Region, was awarded the title of "2016 Marine Person of the Year". "To enhance marine awareness, we must start from the grassroots level and start from the dolls." It was a phrase he often said.
It is proposed to build the country's first street marine national defense education hall
April 23, 2016, is the annual Navy Day and World Book Day. On the morning of the same day, the Marine National Defense Education Center in Ninghai Road Street, Gulou District, Nanjing City, which took more than a year to prepare for construction, was officially opened to the public. The museum is the first marine national defense education hall invested by urban streets in China, as a national marine awareness education base", the museum has a construction area of about 1100 square meters, which is divided into marine history, marine situation, marine resources, marine national policy, marine community and other parts. Walking into the museum, the background light box that comes straight into view is a magnificent picture of the waves. In the second unit "Severe Marine Situation" exhibition area, a huge electronic sand table not only shows the origin of the "nine-dash line" of the sea frontier, but also vividly shows the grim situation of China's marine islands and reefs being illegally occupied. The exhibition area of "Building a Maritime Power" is the "finale area" of the entire education hall. The most shocking parts are the Liaoning Warship Museum and the Island War Theory Research Museum. The two exhibition areas respectively displayed the simulation model of the Liaoning warship, a variety of high-tech weapons and equipment models, and the theoretical monograph "On Island Warfare", which was written by General Zhu Wenquan, the former commander of the Nanjing Military Region, which spent 7 years and wrote, in Chinese and English, as well as relevant media reports.
The completion of the museum stems from Zhu Wenquan's repeated proposal to "strengthen marine awareness education in streets and communities". After the museum was officially opened to the public, it attracted a large number of citizens and tourists. Up to now, the Marine National Defense Education Center has received more than 200 batches of visiting teams from all over the country, and the number of visitors has reached more than 50,000 person-times, becoming a new carrier for the masses and young people to understand marine knowledge and enhance marine awareness.
It took seven years to complete "On island wars"
As an army general, Zhu Wenquan insisted on studying maritime strategy, saying, "I have never left the sea in my life, and I have a special feeling for the sea." In October 1942, Zhu Wenquan was born on the shore of the Yellow Sea and grew up in the company of the waves. After joining the army, he served as a division commander, chief of staff of the Grand Military Region, commander of the Grand Military Region, and other positions, and made long-term research and preparations for guarding the security of the motherland's coastal defense and safeguarding the reunification of the motherland. Since 1991, Zhu Wenquan has been devoted to the study of joint operations on marine islands, accumulated a lot of knowledge and experience, and enjoyed the title of "famous amphibious warfare expert" at home and abroad. He said, "The future marine island operations will not be a single operation, but a joint operation of land, sea, air, space and electricity, one operation and three-dimensional operation." Theater commanders must have the quality of commanding joint operations, otherwise they will not be able to win wars. For war, Zhu Wenquan's vision is very long-term. Modern China's history of humiliation due to its weak maritime defense and years of military experience have made him realize that the sea is crucial to the security and development of contemporary China.
In September 2007, after Zhu Wenquan stepped down from his position as a military district leader, he decided to write a book about island warfare. In order to complete this work, Zhu Wenquan first spent more than two years collecting and studying the history of island wars of human civilization and sorting out and summarizing the lessons of each island war. After more than 8 months of formulating the outline, refining the viewpoints, forming semi-finished products, it took more than two years to concentrate on writing, and finally it took more than 1 year to carefully polish and study. He also held six expert forums in Beijing and Nanjing to listen to opinions.
In 2014, Zhu Wenquan completed "On Island War". The book is divided into 3 volumes and 12 articles, with a total of 1.27 million words, and conducts special research on island warfare from six levels: weaponry and equipment, battlefield environment, logistics support, psychological warfare, application of international law, and war preparation. The publication of "On Island War" has filled the gap in the theory of island war at home and abroad, and has been highly praised by the leaders of the Central Military Commission and experts and scholars at home and abroad. More than 200 experts and scholars have published book reviews and commentaries, and 26 central and local media and major websites, such as People's Daily, People's Liberation Army Daily, CCTV, Yangzi Evening News, and Yangtze Evening News Network, have made special reports or published book reviews by experts and scholars.
On April 3, 2015, this reporter attended the "On Island War" and the Report on Maritime Powers held in Nanjing, received a book signed by General Zhu Wenquan, listened to his speech, and with a high sense of responsibility and mission, hoped that this book could "tell the young generation of the motherland that China's way out lies in building a maritime power and defending a maritime power." Raising awareness of the ocean is a great project for the benefit of future generations. The 21st century is the century of the ocean, and the development trend of the world is to march towards the ocean. In the future, I will continue to wave the flag for the marine cause and play a role in promoting the construction of a maritime power. (Editor: Cao Lujie)
