The tree of love is not full of flowers and fruits

author:Yuan Yue

I remember once taking a taxi with a middle-aged driver in Boston, and he showed me off on the way that I was actually a cellist from Russia. This isn't the first time I've taken an artist's cab as a driver, at least once in a taxi where a pianist from Haiti has been a driver.

In the United States, it is not surprising to see tenors and oil painters selling on the streets. When I took Yale's "Sociological Investigations of Contemporary Art," the professor told us that at least more than 80 percent of contemporary artists in the United States have different part-time jobs, most notably taxi drivers, painters, carpenters, and online post-production. But these people all have a common characteristic, even if they work part-time to earn money, they still retain their own artistic hobbies and expertise, which distinguish them from other blue-collar workers of the same kind, and also distinguish such blue-collar workers from other friends who can make a living from art.

Not having hobbies is pathetic, because there is a lack of obvious tendentious selection, achievement enjoyment points, and opportunities for a circle of friends in a lifetime. Parents, teachers, and ourselves, should make it an important thing for us to develop a tendency to likes in a wide range of possibilities. Only when there is a hobby, only then can there be a conscious choice, only then can there be a willing motivation to pay, only then can there be a natural resource focus, and only then can there be the greatest possibility of achievement.

But many times hobbies in the sense of finance, business, competition is not necessarily the value of life, I have seen that there are like to collect bottle caps, sewing machines, like a special method of painting has not been sold to a painting, love to write poetry without publishing opportunities, there are a bunch of inventions have never had the opportunity to make money, these people almost put the money and resources they earn in their life and work in hobbies, hobbies have become a place to consume money, and even become a place where family members complain, but these people also have a more significant sign of life - There is a lot of expertise in what you like, a constant passion, a particularly different sharing content, and a sense of accomplishment and value that outsiders can't fully understand. At least these people have defined themselves as self-territory of characteristics, tastes, and vertical fields. Hobbies sometimes don't necessarily help with worldly success, but they do shape the uniqueness of our lives.
