Petitioners reported that soil erosion caused by the planting of fast-growing eucalyptus trees in all parts of Guangxi, floor compaction, and many plant species and animal species have disappeared. And make the crops planted in the field extremely perishable, three or five days after leaving the ground will have the smell of eucalyptus trees, resulting in farmers dare not plant crops by the stream; water pollution is serious, although clear but smelly, so a large number of farmland is abandoned, seriously damaging the ecological environment.
In this regard, the Guangxi Forestry Bureau said after investigating and verifying the situation: 1. The problem of soil erosion and land compaction caused by planting fast-growing eucalyptus is partly true; 2. The problem of planting eucalyptus trees affects crops, causes water pollution, and destroys the ecological environment is partly true.
However, the Bureau further explained the above situation: 1. Eucalyptus plantations have a restorative effect on poor land, and there is no immutable soil decline phenomenon for rotational logging. In the past, eucalyptus trees planted in some places may cause some soil compaction due to inadequate care, multi-generation continuous cropping, and chemical fertilizer application. But as long as scientific management is achieved, it is completely avoidable.
