The 1st couplet: Zhongcheng Sect as the Lord of the Waves; Xiang Guo is called the Golden Stone Monk.
In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, there was a monk named Dashi, also known as "LiuZhou". The monks of Liuzhou are versatile, able to write poetry and enjoy collecting.
The Liuzhou monks were in the core area of the Qianjia School, grew up in the prosperous era of Epigraphy, and had close contacts with the famous literati of that time.
At that time, Chen Luan, the inspector of Jiangsu, admired the Liuzhou monk very much and invited the Liuzhou monk to come to the Dayun Nunnery next to the Canglang Pavilion in Suzhou as an abbot.
Chen Luan therefore referred to the Monk Liuzhou as the "Lord of the Waves". This is the origin of Shanglian, "Zhongcheng" is the Qing Dynasty's honorific title for inspectors.
Not only did Nguyen Yuan praise the Liuzhou monk, but the scholar at that time, Nguyen Yuan (that is, Ruan Yuan, who presided over the engraving of the Thirteen Commentaries on the Thirteen Classics), also valued the Liuzhou monk very much.
Ruan Yuan once wrote a poem: "The old visit to the West Lake is Neng, and there is a poetry lamp in the Nanping Nunnery." Who knows the foot of the roof, also known as the Nanping Golden Stone Monk. ”
Nguyễn Nguyễn Nguyễn Nguyễ This is where the lower link comes from.
Therefore, the scholar Qi Yanhuai wrote this couplet according to the names of these two people for the monks of Liuzhou: "Zhongcheng Sect is the Lord of the Waves; Xiangguo is called the Golden Stone Monk." ”
This couplet is not carved, it is completely a natural pair, which is amazing. And through this couplet, we future generations can also see the interaction between the literati and poets and monks of the Qing Dynasty.
2nd Couplet: Hanlin chong guards; admiral as editor.
During the Jiaqing period of the Qing Dynasty, the Chongshou of Shuchangguan (the academy of Hanlin Yuan Shujishi) was changed from a Hanlin scholar to a third-class bodyguard, from a civilian to a military post, which is amazing.
At the same time, the infantry commander (commonly known as the Nine Gate Admiral) Wen Ning was demoted to the position of Hanlin Academy, from a military post to a civilian post, which was also surprising.
Therefore, at that time, there was a saying that "Hanlin was a bodyguard; the admiral was edited", which was naturally confrontational, interesting and amazing.
3rd Couplet: Wash The Feet of Lady Ru;
This couplet is widely circulated and the versions are different. The most popular version is said to be Zeng Guofan visiting Zuo Zongtang. As a result, Zuo Zongtang came out to meet him late.
Zeng Guofan asked Zuo Zongtang why, and Zuo Zongtang replied, "I was just in the concubine's room, and the concubine just happened to be washing her feet, so the servants did not enter the house to report." ”
As a result, Zeng Guofan smiled and said, "Wash Mrs. Ru's feet." (There is a version of the writing "Looks Like Madame Washing Feet.") ”）
Zuo Zongtang shot back and said, "Give Tong Jinshi origin." ”
It turned out that Zeng Guofan was shortlisted for the third rank in the Daoguang Eighteenth Year Temple Examination, and it was the "Tongjinshi", which was a long way worse than the authentic "Jinshi".
Therefore, Zeng Guofan was very ashamed to hear this lower link, and was speechless in an instant. He originally wanted to tease Zuo Zongtang, but he didn't expect to be hit back.
Of course, I personally think that this lower link is not quite like Zuo Zongtang's answer. After all, Zuo Zongtang's origin was much worse than Zeng Guofan.com.
Zuo Zongtang was only born as a "lifter", and the "Jinshi" he finally obtained was also specially given by the imperial court. If Zuo Zongtang ridiculed Zeng Guofan by "giving tong jinshi origin", wouldn't he also laugh at himself? That makes sense.
Therefore, some versions say that this natural couplet is a joke between two of Zeng Guofan's staff members, and Zeng Guofan is very unhappy when he hears it. Personally, I feel that this staff version of the story is more historical in comparison.
4th Couplet: Mo Feng Han Yuru; Terrible Lee Jin-woo.
During the Northern Song Dynasty, Han Jian served as the governor of Qin Prefecture, which was cruel to the government and caused the people to complain.
At that time, the people of Qinzhou circulated two folk songs: "Ning Feng Milk Tiger, Mo Feng Han Yu Ru." ”
Someone took this sentence and asked Sun Lin: "Mo Feng Han Yuru, what is the lower link?" ”
Sun Lin blurted out, "Terrible Li Jinwu." The terrible Li Jinwu comes from Du Fu's poem: "Drunk should be guilty of the night, terrible Li Jinwu." ”
These two sentences are similar to ruthless pairs, unrelated, but naturally a good match, which makes people feel quite interesting.
Couplet 5: The day under the water is the day in heaven; the person in the eye is the person in front of you.
Song Dynasty Prime Minister Kou Zhun once joked with his colleagues: "The day under the water is the day in the sky." "As a result, no one was able to play against the lower link.
It just so happened that the poet Yang Yi came to Kou Zhun to tell him about things, heard Shanglian, and blurted out: "The person in the eye is the person in front of him." ”
This couplet is natural, but also very interesting, quite philosophical, very talented.
There is no moon in the water, but the moon in the sky accidentally casts in the heart of the wave. There is no one in sight, but the one in front of him. This kind of life-oriented content is used in couplets, turning fiction into reality and reality into fiction, which is quite talented.
