The Phantom of Kenya A hotbed for world filmmakers

Light and shadow flow

Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, is one of the largest cities in Africa and is also known as the most fashionable and modern city in Africa. It has provided endless inspiration for Kenyan filmmakers. In 2012, Kenyan director David Dosh Kittanga's film In Search of Nairobi was a wonderful work.

Nairobi, the capital of Kenya

"DreamIng nairobi" tells a story related to dreams, a child with a dream of stardom who comes to Nairobi in search of opportunities despite his family's objections. But it didn't take long for him to understand that the City of Opportunity wasn't as good as he thought it would be. He was robbed of all his money and luggage, hungry and unaccompanied. It was then that he became acquainted with a group of street thugs and became part of a gang. Despite this, he still did not give up his dream of becoming an actor.

The Kenyan-British film First Graders also tells the story of Nairobi. Marug, an 84-year-old man who has loved learning all his life, also hopes to be one of the beneficiary students after the introduction of a free education policy in Kenya. Maruge's persistence and enthusiasm touched the teacher Jane, who knows but was opposed by the school staff and parents, and the angry Maruge decided not to give in, he wanted to challenge the stereotypical rules... Eventually, he officially became a first-grader at a rural primary school not far from Nairobi! Showcasing schooling in Kenya, the film was produced in the UK, but the cast and main production team are Kenyans. It sells well in international markets. So, it's a very good collaboration.

Amboseli National Park

Located on the border between Kenya and Tanzania, Mount Kilimanjaro stands on the southern border of Amboseli National Park, leaving its most beautiful figure to Kenya, so Amboseli is the best place to see Mount Kilimanjaro in Kenya. The soil is highly salty, the wildlife is rich in animals, and the number of elephants here is the largest in the country. As one of Kenya's iconic natural landscapes, Mount Kilimanjaro is frequently featured in movies, and Kilimanjaro means Mountain of Light in Swahili.

The film Snow at Kilimanjaro is based on the novel of the same name by renowned author Hemingway, starring Hollywood superstar Gregory Pike. The camera focuses on towering peaks, majestic rocks, trees that have been twisted by the mountain wind and perpetual snow, and makes the audience feel like they are at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro.

At the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, there is also a unique nomadic people: the Maasai people. For hundreds of years, they grazed on water and grass on the vast land of Africa, lived by hunting, and lived the true life of nomadic people. But in recent years, with the changes in natural ecology and social environment, more and more Maasai people have begun to shuttle between tradition and modernity. Walking into the village of Marseille, you will be greeted by a unique Maasai people's residence. Dead branches enclose a small courtyard the size of a basketball court, and several huts made up of branches, cow dung and mud. The men were wrapped in red capes known as "bundle cards" and held a thin, thick Maasai stick used to drive away wild animals. The women came to welcome us in colourful dresses, headdresses and necklaces strung with delicate beads.

In the movie "Elopement Plan B", there is an unforgettable Maasai wedding. The camera records the special marriage customs of the Maasai people and the pomp and circumstance of marriage. Dressed in traditional red costumes and decorated with magnificent decorations, the bride and groom walk to the newlywed love nest amid the shouts of the clan.

Unforgettable views

In October 2012, Angelina Jolie followed the crew of Tomb Raider 2 to Kenya to play her classic role: Laura. Hell's Gate National Park is also one of the important filming locations for the movie Tomb Raider 2, so this is also the location of the treasure in the film. Hell's Gate is the Valley of the Great Rift Valley of East Africa, so I am now in the canyon on both sides of the canyon up to 20 meters high, and this is also the lowest point of the East African Grand Canyon.

Hell's Gate National Park

The Great Rift Valley is 6,000 kilometers long and is equivalent to 1/6 of the earth's circumference. Some people figuratively refer to it as "the scar of the earth". The scar stretches across the north and south of Kenya, and the scenery is magnificent and spectacular. Hell's Gate National Park is located at the bottom of the Great Rift Valley. It is the only national park in Kenya that allows visitors to get out of the car to walk, drive, bike or ride a horse to watch wildlife.

In Kenya, a natural film location, there has never been a shortage of filmmakers from all over the world, and oscar-winning film emperor William Horton can be called the star spokesperson of Kenya. At the peak of his acting career, William Horton gradually faded out of the film world, living in Kenya for a long time, running his own Mount Kenya Hunting Club. Nestled at the foot of Mount Kenya, Africa's second highest peak, across the equator to north and south, the Mount Kenya Hunting Club is Africa's most luxurious resort. The resort is located on the zero-degree equatorial line, with an equatorial sign at the gate, where you can experience the pleasure of spanning both hemispheres at the same time.
