Since 2004, Wim Devoy has come to a village in Shunyi District on the outskirts of Beijing to set up a small pig farm and raise dozens of white pigs for future creation.
Nearby villagers saw a foreigner running to such a remote place to set up a pig farm, and privately talked about it, some people said that he was a rich man, but just came here to experience the pastoral life. Others say that he committed something and took refuge here in the name of raising pigs.
Later, people understood that William did come here to raise pigs, but his breeding method puzzled the people around him, William treated every pig like a pet every day, bathed them every day, cleaned them up, white and fat, dozens of pigs grew up happily.
It was not until 2010, at an international art exhibition held in Shanghai, that people saw William bringing a few bells and whistles on his body, as well as the "pig skin paintings" on display, that they understood william's true purpose of raising pigs, and people exclaimed: he is too cruel, too inhuman!
In fact, Wiem has publicly exhibited his "pig skin paintings" many times abroad before, but in the Chinese art world, people still see "pigskin paintings" for the first time through this art exhibition, and people who are lonely and unheard of are stunned.
People are surprised not because of William's work, but because his way of creating it is difficult to accept.
William first fattened the pig, washed it white, and then selected a muscular pig to anesthetize it, and then drew directly on the pig, after the painting was completed, William held a tattoo needle and carefully completed the tattoo on the pig. Pigs' food is very good, there are chocolate, sugar gourd, beer and other complementary foods every day, basically about two months can be fattened, therefore, the selected pigs can only enjoy more than two months of life cycle, from two months later, they have to accept the fate of being tattooed, or even slaughtered to make a "pig skin painting".
A set of tattoos takes at least three months to complete, progressing with a workload of two hours a day. Although the pigs were beaten with anesthesia, some sensitive pigs will still feel the pain, and will scream in pain during the tattoo process, and the limbs will be scrambled, and other staff will help hold it to successfully complete the tattoo. This also means that some pigs have to endure the pain for three months continuously, and only when the work is completely completed can it completely free itself from the painful injuries.

In the face of William's elaborate "pigskin paintings", two very different views were left in society.
