Tokyo police have detained the man who carried out the knife-stabbing attack on the train. On a train traveling in the Chofu area of western Tokyo, a man wielding a sharp knife reportedly attacked multiple innocent passengers. Police said at least 6 people were injured, one of whom was seriously injured.
Police said the crash occurred around 8 p.m. local time in Tokyo on Sunday. At that time, the train was traveling on the Keio Line.
Witnesses said the man also spilled flammable liquids into the car and then set them on fire. Fire officials said the fire destroyed some of the seats on the inside of the subway.
Passengers took shelter, and some were forced to flee through subway windows. Passengers filmed people fleeing and the inside of the carriage catching fire.
Sources say the man with the knife was about 20 years old.
Six ambulances and a large number of police vehicles have reportedly arrived at the scene.
