A stray cat was chased into a ventilation shaft seven or eight meters deep by a dog without a leash, trapped for 3 months, relying on the feeding of well-meaning people, and persisted until it was successfully rescued.

On March 6, Chengdu's local cat adoption rescue platform HeMaoZhu released a cat rescue video reviewing the rescue of a cat trapped in a ventilation shaft for three months on February 28. This cat can be called "cat strong".

Help: There are cats trapped in ventilation shafts for 3 months

Yuwen (pseudonym), the initiator of the "Live with Cats" adoption and rescue platform, told The Red Star News reporter that as early as February 23, they received a request for help from the owner of a community in Chengdu, saying that they heard a cat barking in the ventilation shaft of the community, and it had been a long time and should not be able to climb out. "[The owner asked for help] said that he often paid attention to our platform, so he thought of us for the first time."

After confirming that the cat was not in danger for the time being, Yuwen and his colleagues went to the community for the first time on February 27 to conduct a site survey and found that the ventilation shaft where the cat was trapped was very deep, and it was surrounded by brick fences, there was no passage to enter, and the rescue was blocked. "We met a big sister at the scene who said the cat had been trapped in the ventilation shaft for at least 3 months." Yuwen said that the cat was picked up by a dog and fell into it.

Trapped for 3 months, how did the cat survive? The eldest sister said that every two or three days, she would feed some food into the ventilation shaft, and she had always wanted to rescue the cat, spending dozens of dollars to ask the staff in charge of gardening in the community to get some branches to put in, hoping that the cat could climb up on its own, but it has not been successful.

"The branches are too thin to bear the weight of cats, and cats are also relatively timid, and once someone passes by, they will be frightened and dare not climb up." Yuwen said that when they went down the well, they found that the well was seven or eight meters deep, and the height of the branches was not high enough.

Successful rescue for more than 5 hours The cat has been adopted

To rescue the cat, the mesh opening of the brick ventilation shaft must be demolished. After communicating with the property, the owner of the community confirmed that as long as the ventilation shaft can be sealed after rescue, it can be demolished.

On February 28, yuwen and his colleagues began the formal rescue after preparing to dismantle and restore the materials for the mesh opening of the ventilation shaft.

"If there are no branches in the well and the ground is relatively flat, we can directly rescue the cat with a trap cage." But there are too many branches, and the trap cage can't be put down, only people can go down. Yuwen said that after removing the bricks of the mesh mouth, he put on his full body protective equipment and went down the well. In the video released by "Live with the Cat", the Red Star News reporter noticed that there were constantly debris falling, and Yuwen also said, "Fortunately, I wore a helmet." ”

Soon, Yuwen entered the ventilation shaft and found the trapped cat in the corner between the branches. In order to alleviate the cat's fear of seeing people, he first threw ham sausages and other foods to the cat from a little farther away. At first, the cat let out a low roar of vigilance, but Yuwen slowly approached and found that the cat was not very resistant. He wore gloves to try to touch the cat, and the cat did not extend its paws to resist. So Yuwen smoothly put the cat into the cage, and the colleague quickly pulled the cat cage up.

At the preliminary examination, Yuwen found that the tanuki cat itself had no underlying disease, but was timid, plus well-wishers fed and had food, so it was not very thin.

From 10:30 a.m. to around 4 p.m. to complete the rescue, Yuwen and his colleagues spent more than 5 hours successfully rescue the trapped cat. "The eldest sister cooked us a pot of noodles at noon, which was very touching." Yuwen said.

Yuwen told the Red Star News reporter that after the cat was taken back to "live with the cat", it was successfully adopted two or three days later.

Self-proclaimed "cat firefighters" want more people to adopt instead of buying

Yuwen and his colleagues' "He cat live" is a young cat adoption rescue platform, which was officially established in 2018. Unlike other small animal rescue and protection centers, "living with cats" is often "going up the mountain and going down to the sea" to rescue trapped cats, such as climbing to a tree more than 10 meters high and unable to get down, falling into ventilation shafts, sewers, trapped in the canopy... Yuwen and his colleagues call themselves "cat firefighters", for this reason, Yuwen also went to the "Special Operations Operation Certificate", every time dangerous rescue, the first thing to do is to ensure safety. "Many people see trapped cats, the first time is to ask for help from firefighters, in fact, firefighters may not know much about the habits of cats, and they don't know how to deal with them after they are rescued." We rescue trapped cats and also hope to minimize the work of firefighters in this regard and not waste public resources. Yuwen said that this is also "professional people doing professional things."

"Live with cats" From simply sheltering stray cats, to releasing adoption information, and then to the current professional rescue, each rescue, Yuwen and colleagues will record the process in detail with videos, hoping that through these videos, more people will know about scientific cat raising, and publicize adoption instead of purchasing.

When preparing to go to the ventilation shaft to save the cat, Yuwen did not forget to publicize to the children who were watching next to him that "from an early age to develop a good habit of protecting small animals" and "can not bully stray animals". In the video, a child says that "their (stray animals) life is also difficult", which is praised by Yuwen and colleagues.
