For two consecutive years, European pigeons have appeared in Dunhuang Yangguan National Nature Reserve

Lanzhou, December 12 (Xinhuanet) -- For two consecutive years, a European pigeon has appeared in the Dunhuang Yangguan National Nature Reserve in Gansu Province, and it is understood that this bird has only appeared in Xinjiang in China before.

In late November last year, the field monitoring system at Wowachi Station in Yangguan Nature Reserve captured a new bird. Later, after the identification of bird experts, this new bird is named "European pigeon", slightly smaller than the ordinary domestic pigeon, the whole body plumage is dark gray, and there are two inconspicuous black horizontal lines on the wings, distributed in Northern Europe, Iran and other places.

This winter, the reserve is prepared ahead of schedule for the arrival of the European pigeons. Recently, the figure of European pigeons has finally reappeared, although they are very alert to their surroundings, they have been photographed by bird photography enthusiasts, leaving valuable monitoring data.

In recent years, Dunhuang Yangguan Nature Reserve has relied on wetland restoration and management and beach closure and afforestation projects, with the Wowachi wetland as the core, gradually restored a large area of wetlands, rivers and lakes in the hinterland of the desert, while stocking fish, providing rich food for the breeding and wintering of birds, making the waters of Wowachi a migration station for many migratory birds, with more than 130 species of birds monitored and recorded.
