Stein: The Mavericks are trying to trade Trey Burke to free up a place in the squad

According to Marc Stein, the source revealed that before signing Nilikina, the Lone Ranger had explored the possibility of sending Trey Burke away in the offseason trading market in order to free up a place for Nilikina to join, but the transaction did not materialize.

The Lone Rangers currently have 16 guaranteed contracts, so they must give up one of the players before the regular season starts. Cutting Burke is too expensive ($3.15 million in the 21-22 season, $3.3 million in the 22-23 season with player options), so the Mavericks are expected to continue to explore deal options in hopes of solving the problem of overstaffing the roster.
