Wang Yong, the "Tiger of Hainan", was sentenced to life imprisonment

Wang Yong was tried

Born in February 1957 in Yanggu, Shandong, Wang Yong worked in Shandong in his early years, went to Hainan in the early 1990s, and served as director of the provincial transportation department, mayor of Sanya, director of the United Front Work Department of the provincial party committee, and vice chairman of the provincial CPPCC committee in January 2016.

On July 13, 2020, Wang Yong was officially announced to have "fallen from power", was "double-opened" in January this year, and was tried in the Guilin Intermediate Court in Guangxi in May.

The circular said that Wang Yong ignored the spirit of the eight central regulations, had an unhealthy family style, wantonly amassed wealth, promoted reclamation projects in violation of regulations and caused serious consequences, and arranged for others to pretend and put on performances at the party's democratic life meeting.

After trial, the court found that from 2000 to 2014, Wang Yong took advantage of his position as secretary of the Chengmai County Party Committee, director of the Provincial Department of Transportation, mayor of Sanya, etc., to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in matters such as project approval, change in the nature of land, project contracting, and job promotion, and illegally accepted property given by relevant personnel, equivalent to a total of 90.472259 million yuan.

The Guilin Intermediate People's Court held that Wang Yong's conduct constituted the crime of accepting bribes in accordance with the law. Wang Yong accepted a particularly large amount of bribes, and in view of the fact that after he arrived at the case, he voluntarily confessed some of the facts of the crime of accepting bribes that the case-handling organs had not yet grasped, truthfully confessed other facts of the crime of accepting bribes, confessed his guilt and repented of his crimes, actively returned the stolen goods, and all the stolen money and stolen goods had been recovered, and he could be given a lenient punishment in accordance with law. The Tribunal accordingly rendered the above-mentioned judgment.

Wang Yong said in court that he would obey the court's judgment and would not appeal.

Since the 19th Party Congress, three provincial and ministerial-level cadres have fallen in Hainan, including Wang Yong, the "first tiger" - Zhang Qi, member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Haikou Municipal Party Committee, and Tong Daochi, member of the Standing Committee of the Hainan Provincial Party Committee and secretary of the Sanya Municipal Party Committee, who was investigated in November last year.

In December, Zhang Qi was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Guangzhou Intermediate People's Court for accepting bribes of more than 107 million yuan, and in September this year, Tong Daochi, who "used his authority to seek power in the capital market to seek rent", was prosecuted by the Shenzhen Municipal People's Procuratorate.
