After the 1927 Eighty-Seven Conference, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China decided to launch the Autumn Harvest Uprising. For the safety of his wife and children, Mao Zedong asked Yang Kaihui to return to his hometown in Changsha with his three sons to live temporarily, and he went to the border of Xianggan and Gansu alone. Yang Kaihui, who remained in his hometown, continued to carry out underground revolutionary struggles around Changsha according to his instructions before his departure, strengthened the party organization, and also worried about her husband's safety and coldness.
However, Mao Zedong, who was far away from Guanshan and interrupted communications, was unable to respond to his wife's concerns as he worked hard to open up a base area at Jinggangshan.
In October 1930, Yang Kaihui was unfortunately arrested in Bancang, Changsha. The warlords set the terms for release as long as they agreed to declare their dissolution of the relationship with Mao Zedong. Yang Kaihui, who has not heard from her husband for three years, gave a categorical answer: unless the sea is dry and rotten. On November 14, 1930, the 29-year-old Yang Kaihui bravely rebelled. Before the sacrifice, she only said one sentence: "Death is not a pity, may Runzhi's cause succeed as soon as possible."
In 1982, when workers were repairing the Yang family's old house in Bancang, they accidentally found Yang Kaihui's manuscript hidden there in the brick cracks of the bedroom wall. This manuscript, which has been hidden for 52 years, records Yang Kaihui's little-known inner world...
