This poem lamenting the azalea is the work of Wang Shipeng, a famous politician and poet of the Southern Song Dynasty. Wang Shipeng (1112-1171), also known as Gui Ling, meixi, was a native of Yueqing, Wenzhou. In the twenty-seventh year of Shaoxing (1157), he took the "power grab" Zhongxing as the right, and was promoted by Emperor Gaozong of Song to be the first (champion) of jinshi, the secretary of the official Lang, the imperial history, the zhirao, the 夔, the lake, and the spring prefecture, with the title of "Zhongwen".

I. Morphological characteristics of lilac rhododendron (cf. Flora of China)

The capsule is cylindrical, about 1 cm long, densely covered with rust-colored soft hairs. The flowering period is from May to June, and the fruit period is from July to August.

Compared with other rhododendrons, lilac rhododendron is a deciduous shrub, the plant is low, small and exquisite, the posture is handsome; the first flower is the leaf, the flower is like a trumpet, the form is elegant, the flower color is beautiful, purple as smoke; the grace is luxurious, otherworldly, the tree blooms, hundreds of thousands, like smoke clouds, looming; made of bonsai, has been horizontal, handsome and elegant, very beautiful, so it is one of the high-quality materials for making bonsai.
Although China is the country with the largest number of rhododendron varieties in the world, many of which are rare varieties unique to China, in terms of rhododendron horticultural hybrid breeding, China lags behind Japan and European and American countries. In the horticultural flower industry over the years, foreign rhododendron horticultural varieties have repeatedly won awards, so I hope that relevant institutions can use the advantages of resources to catch up, so as to cultivate more and more beautiful rhododendron varieties.
