●Hefei, Anhui: Hechai 1972●
Hechai was originally the site of the Feixi Kiln Factory in 1972, but when it was first built in 1954, it was a desert island surrounded by water on three sides in Guanzhen, Feixi County. In 1972, after being converted into Hefei Diesel Engine Factory, 'Diesel Engine Factory' became the most important label of this land; in 1996, the Diesel Engine Factory was used as another Hefei Prison.
In 2019, after the renovation and opening of the park, it became the first cultural and creative park in China to be transformed from the old prison site, and became a new landmark and internet celebrity punch card in Hefei with attractions such as Dashu Mountain, Li Mansion and Bao Gong Ancestral Hall.
At the time of the transformation of the park, the original texture of the Hefei Diesel Engine Factory was retained, and the secondary design and transformation were carried out based on the structural characteristics and architectural culture of the original industrial relics. While protecting and restoring industrial heritage, we should also make innovative use of industrial heritage.
The reformed Hechai 1972 uses history and prison as clues to string together a timeline from the past to reality. The park is mainly composed of theme sections such as creative market, home appliance story hall, contemporary art museum, youth theater, performing arts square, and Hechai living room.
Among them, the most representative is the home appliance story hall. From the first DVD in China, to the first bionic scrub washing machine, to the first microcomputer, etc. were all born in Hefei, so Hefei also has the title of "Capital of Home Appliances".
In the home appliance story museum, through the refinement of brands, stories, culture and inheritance, the experience center is divided into home appliance story theme display area, home appliance brand experience area, Hefei scene old street, quality life bookstore, robot science and technology interactive area. Take advantage of the iterative changes of home appliances to reproduce the old Hefei street scene and scientific and technological interaction.
The factory-converted contemporary art museum, with its arched and symmetrical roof and open space, is the first choice for art exhibitions.
The park's exterior walls are painted with hand-painted graffiti walls with artistic appeal, full of street art, attracting tourists to punch in and take photos.
●Hokkaido, Japan: Abashiri Prison Museum.●
Located in northern Hokkaido, Japan, close to the Sea of Okhotsk, Abashiri Prison is the only museum in Japan that has been converted from a prison open to the public. The entire prison covers an area of 170,000 square meters, which is equivalent to 3.5 Tokyo Domes!
More than 130 years ago, more than 1,200 prisoners were sent to Abashiri City, with a population of only 631 people, and as a pioneer in the reclamation of Hokkaido, many died of hunger and cold, and it was because of them that it became the most famous prison in Japan.
As an important cultural heritage of Hokkaido, the Abashiri Prison Museum documents the hardships of the prisoners' labor and contributions to Hokkaido, showing the lives of the prisoners imprisoned here, the arduous pioneering tasks, and the display of execution materials.
In Abashiri Prison, you can see many elaborate details, such as the cells of the five-winged radial flat house, the dormitory with the spire of the jungle chalet, the Western-style teaching hall inside...
The five-wing radial cell, modelled on the Belgian prison of Leuven, is the oldest surviving form of wooden house in the world. With the guard pavilion as the center, the corridor prison is radiated in five directions, and the guards only need to stand in the middle of the pavilion to see the situation in the corridor in any direction, which is simply to see the six roads and listen to the eight directions.
The corridors with cement as a barrier and bricks, covered with several thick pillar walls, are still unable to stop the escapes of "Japanese prison escape king" Yuei Shiratori again and again, which also makes Abashiri Prison famous.

Malmaison Oxford, formerly known as Victoria Prison, in Oxford, ceased to be in use in 1996.
During the renovation process, it not only retained the style of the prison, but also combined with the original design of the building, and transformed it into a hotel with accommodation functions.
The execution room and the death penalty room were transformed into stylish guest rooms and offices, with dark gray as the main tone, responding to the calm and quiet style of the prison.
The three cells were opened into one whole, and the original cell style was retained, with a combination of pitch-black wood, iron gray curtains, blue walls and carpets to create a style different from the cell.
Restaurants, bars, taverns and shopping shops are also available.
The former prison carries a piece of history, and the old site of the renovated prison is presented with a new look, showing historical stories in a new way, so that people can understand the ruins and reread history in an immersive way.
