A picture lets you know what our idols looked like eight hundred years ago

Created in the Southern Song Dynasty, the Eight Phases Diagram depicts eight sages of different dynasties, from right to left: Zhou Gong Ji Dan, Han Liu Marquis Zhang Liang, Tang ZhengGuo Duke Wei Zheng, Tang Liang Guo Duke Di Renjie, Tang Fenyang County Wang Guo Ziyi, Northern Song Dynasty general Han Qi, Northern Song Dynasty historian Sima Guang, Southern Song Dynasty famous Xiang Zhou Bida. These eight people "are all morally respected, far-reaching, and high in merit, so that under the hundred worlds, look at their style, look up to them, and look up to them, and have unattainable." I was the idol of the top daimyo at that time!

Eight people either held a wat board or bowed their hands on their chests, with different looks. Each sage erected a hymn in the book after the statue, but the eighth Zhou Bida was in front of the statue. There is an inscription on the tail paper, but unfortunately, several texts about the characters and time are incomplete.

Judging from the painting of Zhou Bida (1126-1204) and the inscription in the painting "The Portrait of the Eight People of the Han and Tang Dynasties of the Zhou Dynasty and even my Song Chongchen", it is a work of the late Southern Song Dynasty. This portrait inherits the painting method of the Northern Song Dynasty portrait, and the figure is painted using the method of three-quarters of the frontal appearance, which is consistent with the painting method of the "Five Old Figures". The faces of the characters are painted with light ink lines and faint ochre color. The lines of the clothes are coarse and simple, mostly use the center, more symmetrical, and the collar and sleeves are dyed with ink. The proportion of the characters is reasonable, the painting style is simple, and the costumes of the Tang and Song dynasties have their own characteristics. However, the expression of the eight phases drawn is programmed, and it can be said that the pursuit of the ideal form of the character is pursued.
