According to the "Fujian Provincial Chronicle (Animal Husbandry Chronicle)", the Changle grey goose is a local breed listed in the "Fujian Provincial Livestock and Poultry Breeds and Atlas" in 1985.
The feathers of the Grey Goose are greyish brown or silvery gray, the beak and the sarcoma on the top of the head are black, the skin is yellow, the tibia and webbing are light yellow or grayish black, iridescent brown, no pharyngeal bags, no top star hairs, and the flesh is tender and the meat is delicious. Male geese are majestic, large, high-headed, loud, sarcomas larger and rounder than female geese, slightly angular, and adult male geese weigh 3.5 to 4.1 kg. The female goose has a beautiful posture, the sarcoma is flat and smooth, the mother goose has abdominal folds, and the adult female goose weighs 2.8 to 3.5 kg.
It was tested that Changle Grey Goose contained protein ≥ 18.5 g/100 g, unsaturated fatty acids (in terms of fat) ≥ 65.0 g/100 g, and the total amino acid ≥ 15.0 g/100 g. Among them, the content of unsaturated fatty acids is high, which is beneficial to human health.

Since 1998, the conservation of Changle grey goose has been supported by the national, provincial, municipal finance and agricultural departments, providing a guarantee for the protection and development of Changle grey goose, and has become a new industry that drives local farmers to increase income, with broad prospects for development. In 2017, the total protected area of Changle grey goose was 421.48 square kilometers, with an annual output of 400,000 animals and 1.5 million tons.
On December 22, 2017, the former Ministry of Agriculture of the People's Republic of China officially approved the registration and protection of geographical indications of agricultural products for "Changle Grey Goose".
