Yunyang is the back garden of Shiyan! It is the support of Hanjiang New Town! It is the home of dinosaurs! It is the home of mankind!

Yunyang District, formerly known as Yun County, on September 9, 2014, the State Council officially approved the abolition of Yun County, the establishment of Shiyan City Yunyang District, with the administrative area of the former Yun County as the administrative area of Yunyang District, Yunyang District People's Government Station Chengguan Town Jinsha Road No. 1, Yun County officially withdrawn from the county and renamed Yunyang District. The land area is 3863 square kilometers.
The word "YunYang", to this day, the word "Yang", people according to the ancient "water north is yang, Shannan is yang life" principle, and is recognized and followed. However, there are still 9 different theories on the character "郧", one is that it originates from the ancient Yun Zi kingdom; the second is that it originates from meteorites flying from the sky, and the third is derived from a word hypothesis in Sima Qian's "History". That is: "Yun Guan originated from 'Inquiry Pass' (XunYang), and the four said that Chu named wu Zixu's character "yuan" as a sign of memory. The "member" land became a county divided by the monarch from the ordinary territory, and the "member" added "β" (邑) to the right; the fifth said that in the twelfth year of the Weiguo Laigong, the Weihou met with the Wuhou in Yundi, and the Song Emperor Yu was called Yun; the sixth said that the "Zuo Chuan And Aigong Eleventh Year" Taishu died in Yun, the seventh said that Yunyang Fu Yunxian was the land of the ancient Yan kingdom, called Xixue in the Spring and Autumn Period, and the Song state in which Liu Yu was the monarch in the Southern Dynasty was called Yun, because of the name of Yun Shan but the name; the eighth said that the surname evolution of the Guyun people was born of Yun; the ninth said that it was the surname evolution of the Guyun people. The word "涢" evolved from the word "涿" that flows through the city of Anlu in Hubei Province. These statements from newspapers, magazines and reference books have their own merits.
According to historical records, from the Yuan Dynasty to the fourteenth year of the Yuan Dynasty (1277), "Yunxiang County" was renamed "Yun County" and was subordinate to The Prefecture of Xiangyang Province. Since then, the name "Yun County" has been used (1277-2014). On December 17, 2014, with the approval of the State Council, Yun County was assigned to Yunyang District under the direct jurisdiction of Shiyan City (listing date). Qiangu Yun County was officially renamed Yunyang District of Shiyan City.
Historical and cultural sites such as the ancient ruins of "Yunxian people", the ruins of Meipu ape people, and the fossil group of dinosaur eggs in Qinglong Mountain are well-known in the world.
The site of "Yunxian Ren", also known as the Liangzi Ruins of Xuetang, was listed as a national key cultural relics protection unit in 2001. In 1989 and 1990, Liangzi, a school in Midas Temple Village, Qingqu Town, Yunxian County (now Yunyang District), unearthed two nearly complete Homo erectus skulls and associated mammal fossils and stone products, dating back about 1 million years, and once caused a sensation in the paleoanthropological community. Jia Lanpo, a famous paleoanthropologist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, called it a "national treasure" and named it "Yunxian people" according to the rules of ancient human naming. It is understood that when the second skull fossil of the "Yunxian people" was excavated, more than 2,000 animal fossils and more than 3,000 stone tools were also found. So many associated remains have been unearthed together, increasing the academic gold content of the "Yunxian Ren" site. Li Yanxian, a famous Paleolithic archaeologist, said: "I have presided over the excavation of the Peking Man Site and the Guanyin Cave Site in Guizhou, and I have not yet encountered such a well-preserved site. He believes that in terms of the comprehensiveness of the materials, the richness, and the academic problems that may be solved, the importance of the "Yunxian people" site is second only to the Zhoukoudian Beijing people site.
From the perspective of completeness and age, "Yunxian people" occupy many first places in the country. Zhoukoudian's "Beijing people" have many skulls are part, "Yunxian people" are the whole one, Lantian people only have a small skull, Yuanmou people only have 4 incisors, so the excavation of the "Yunxian people" site is very important, and the impact in the world is very large.
The site of the "Meipu Ape Man" is located next to the Yunmei Highway at the mouth of the Xisigou in Meipu Town, Yunyang District, at the confluence of the Xisi River and the Tao River. About 100 meters from the bank of the Tao River, it is called "Keel Cave". In 1975, after two excavations by the Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, it belongs to the ancient ape man site in China, dating back about 600,000 years, and 4 fossils of ape teeth were found in the cave, with clear stone cores with clear traces of artificial blows.
Yunyang Qinglongshan Dinosaur Egg Fossil Group National Geopark: Located on the han river at the source of the central line of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project, located in Yunyang District, Shiyan City, Hubei Province, adjacent to Fuyin Expressway and 209 National Highway, 23 kilometers away from Shiyan City, 50 kilometers away from Wudang Mountain, the traffic is very convenient. With a total area of 45 square kilometers, it is an important paleontological fossil production area, a national nature reserve, a national geological park, a national A-level tourist area, and a national science popularization education base in China.
The fossil group of dinosaur eggs in Qinglong Mountain is distributed at the edge of the Yuanyang Fault Basin. It has an area of about 4 square kilometers. The dinosaur egg fossil group in the Qinglong Mountain area is the most concentrated, the largest number of species, the most complete preservation and the largest fossil group of dinosaur eggs in the world. Dinosaur egg fossils in the in situ relics display park are famous at home and abroad for their large number, high density, shallow burial, concentrated distribution and well-preserved, and are known as the "hometown of dinosaurs", of which the phenomenon of "dragon egg coexistence" is rare in the world.
