Yesterday, the classic Beijing Renyi play "Li Bai" was staged again at the Capital Theatre. This year is also the thirtieth anniversary of the premiere of the play, and Pu Cunxin and Gong Lijun, who participated in the first performance, still appear on the stage.
"Li Bai" is a classic of the new era of Beijing Renyi, premiered in 1991, and won five awards in 1993 in the selection of the Third Wenhua Awards, namely the Screenplay Award, the Director Award, the Stage Design Award, the Performance Award and the Performance Award. After thirty years of honing on stage, it is still full every time it is staged.
Li Bai is the poet that Chinese audiences are most familiar with, but screenwriter Guo Qihong did not describe Li Bai's flamboyant side, but chose the later stage of his life, telling his helplessness after serving the national situation but being deeply involved in power plots, as well as the dilemma between "birth" and "WTO accession". Such an angle is full of romantic poetry and rich philosophy of life. In Li Bai, it reflects the style and bone of Chinese literati and the temperament of Chinese culture. "This play we showed the audience on stage like a Chinese painting." Director Tang Ye introduced, "All stage presentations must be poetic, just like the moon rising in every scene, using blank stages and representative imagery to show the relationship between scenery and people, echoing the yin and yang of life." ”
Thirty years after the performance, the "Li Bai" crew has both Pu Cunxin and Gong Lijun, who have acted from the first performance to the current "elders", as well as Zou Jian, Zhang Wankun, Mi Tiezeng, Wu Shanshan and other artists who have been performing in the crew for more than ten years, in the view of director Tang Ye, each of them is completing the inheritance of the classic. "Together, we pass on the classics left to us by the old artists and the creative attitude towards the classics." Tang Ye said. Retaining the original "taste" instead of "old" is the goal of their creation.
Thirty years of performing on the same stage, together to achieve a classic, Pu Cunxin and Gong Lijun's cooperation in "Li Bai" is also a good story. "After acting for thirty years, from the beginning of playing his full of sorrow and indignation, to now playing his return to the basics, I have a new understanding of life and art." Pu Cunxin, who plays Li Bai, is already inseparable from the role of Li Bai, "My understanding of Li Bai is a piece of sincerity, which is also my attitude towards creation. Playing Li Bai's wife Zong Yan in the play, Gong Lijun deeply felt the excellence of this script, "The script provides us with a lot of creative space, but also provides a lot of appreciation space for the audience."
