The "exodus" porcupine is even more free! The Hongshan Forest Zoo conducts biodiversity conservation and public education surveys

Porcupine "fights" the badgers, releasing porcupine spines; male and female porcupines have a romantic date at night, looking for dinner together... These hilarious scenes appeared in the wild release area of Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo, and these interesting pictures were also captured by infrared cameras during the investigation of "Biodiversity Conservation and Public Education in Xiaohongshan Mountain".

The porcupine in the picture accidentally escaped from the captive area of Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo two years ago, and I did not expect that its life in the wild was very leisurely and moist. Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo Wildlife Rescue Center Chen Yuelong introduced that in the past, porcupines were wildly distributed in the Xiaohongshan area, and they wanted to experimentally release another one, if they met in the wild, communicated with each other, and could breed smoothly, you can know whether a hilly environment like Nanjing may also re-host the porcupine species.

On August 30 this year, the researchers released another captive porcupine, the "Chrysanthemum Tree," and put on an "ear tag." Kikuki is female, and the porcupine "captured" by the infrared camera looks like a "strong man." Happily, the infrared camera did record a very harmonious picture of them walking together.

More interestingly, the infrared camera also captured a badger with a porcupine thorn on its forehead. Chen Yuelong speculated that although the badger has a certain degree of predatoriness, the porcupine is such a large individual, the badger should not prey on it. It may be that the badger does not know what the situation is, went to look at it, and accidentally got stabbed by the porcupine.

In order to allow the "animal neighbors" to coexist in harmony with humans, since 2014, the Hongshan Forest Zoo has carried out the "Little Red Mountain Biodiversity Conservation and Public Education" survey. 20 infrared cameras have been set up in the Xiaohongshan wild release area, and after investigation, small animals such as weasels, raccoons, badgers, and red-bellied squirrels are also often found in the Xiaohongshan area.
