As United's pressure increases, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has vowed to keep fighting

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer vowed to "fight back" on Friday as his side suffered a 5-0 defeat to Liverpool, putting him in a dangerous position at Old Trafford.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of his trip to Tottenham On Saturday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was asked if he had spoken to former manager Alex Ferguson since losing Liverpool and whether he believed he could get out of his current predicament and succeed as his old boss.

He said: "Yes, in both ways. As a player, when I was a coach and a manager, I had some really bad moments here. ”

"I've had to deal with setbacks, at least since I became the coach here, probably at least two or three crises. One thing I can say is that I will always give it a great chance and fight back. ”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also described a report that Paul Pogba was sent off for a red card in Liverpool's match after coming off the bench in the first half, did not speak to him after the game and shelved contract negotiations as a "blatant lie".

"But when the lie was made up we couldn't accept it, Paul came to me and told me what he posted on his social media accounts.

"We're better than that as a group. The culture is better, the environment is better. When it is a blatant lie, they must stand up and say it. All comments and reports are OK, but don't disinform the players or me. ”

The Manchester United boss said his players had a "great week" on the training ground.

"Sometimes, when you're criticized like you are now, you go into the trenches with your teammates and that's how I've seen the reaction this week," he said.

"This club, no matter what we've been through before, always has to get through it with courage, unity, teamwork, confidence and unity."

Defender Harry Maguire, who apologised to supporters immediately after Sunday's defeat, told United that the players had let the club and fans down but the team could bounce back.

"We have a lot of experience in the dressing room and there are a lot of leaders," he said.

"We're open, we're men, and we can accept that someone is accusing us, but one thing is for sure, and that's that we all know we're together and there's no blame game.

"Everyone has to look at themselves individually to see where they can improve and help the team. That's what I've been doing and I'm sure that's what every player has been doing in the dressing room. ”
