Through hard work, he also established key geological models such as in situ structure under the thrust fault of Longmen Mountain in northwest Sichuan, innovated and formed complex mountain imaging technology, effectively improved the imaging effect of complex structures, led the deep high-fidelity and preservation amplitude treatment, and formed the seismic phase classification and evaluation of deep carbonate thin reservoirs, breaking through the bottleneck of deep exploration technology in Sichuan Basin.

"Deyang-Anyue rift trough depiction" and "Longmen Mountain front belt composite trap description" and other work has made significant progress, new geological understanding has broken out of the cocoon, double exploration 1 well, Pengtan 1 well and other risk exploration wells have been successfully demonstrated and major discoveries have been made, and a new trillion square atmospheric fields in the Sichuan Basin are just around the corner.

In 2015, during the interpretation process, Chen Xiao found an anomaly in the seismic amplitude of 100ms in the Jianyang area. He knew that a tiny anomaly could represent a drastic change in the geology of the subsurface, and such details could not be spared. Despite repeated research, the research work was impossible.

"Learning to think in dimension is a way to solve many problems." This is Chen Xiao's experience, the geophysical dimension is not enough, it is combined with the dimension of stratigraphic sedimentation; not enough, it is combined with the dimension of geotectonics. Chen Xiao took his research to a new dimension – prototype basin restoration.

Restoring the ancient geological background of the Sichuan Basin tectonics and sediments hundreds of millions of years ago is highly complex and difficult. Numerous "authoritative" views did not stop Chen Xiao's eyes from exploring, and he was concerned about an important geological event- the large-scale eruption of volcanic rock caused by the rapid uplift of the Permian Emei mantle column.

"Could it be controlled by fault zones, which extend north along the early Longquanshan fault zone?" The Panxi Plateau Large Volcanic Rock Province is the only internationally recognized ancient magma province in China, nearly 1,000 kilometers away from Jianyang. However, Chen Xiao still boldly established a geological model of volcanic rock, which was verified by digital simulation, and the simulation results were highly consistent with the seismic profile phenomenon. A major breakthrough was made in research, and he identified favorable areas for exploration of Jianyang volcanic rock.

In 2018, Yongtan 1 well obtained high-yield industrial air flow, Sichuan discovered a new scale exploration stratigraphy, natural gas resources of more than 400 billion square meters, volcanic rock exploration opened a historic new chapter.

This year marks Chen Xiao's 11th year of oil and gas exploration in the Sichuan Basin. Nowadays, the technical series such as seismic phase classification evaluation and fine description of phased reservoirs in deep carbonate beaches led by his team have broken through the technical problems of ultra-deep exploration and have reached the international advanced level.

In the past 11 years, Chen Xiao has traveled through the typical geological profile of the Sichuan Basin, turning through the seismic data of the basin and explaining the profile for more than 100,000 kilometers.
