Li Ding, who loves to perform, followed his father's wishes and was admitted to Shanxi Tongxu Medical College, now Shanxi Medical University. But at that time, the soldiers were in chaos and the war was raging. Li Ding was unable to make a trip to Shanxi, so he had to continue his sophomore year of high school at Beijing Hongda Middle School.

In the autumn of 1946, during his school years, Li Ding's diligence and studiousness and willingness to serve the country loyally were favored by Mu Qing, an underground party member of the CPC; under the guidance and education of Mu Qing, he accepted the leadership of the party, organized the "Seven Seven" drama society, participated in the motherland theater troupe led by the Communist Party of China, and appeared in the drama "Patrol" for the first time and entered the literary and art circles, engaging in the party's theatrical activities and student movement. In February 1947, Li Ding joined the Communist Party of China.

In 1948, the party organization notified some underground party members to go to Shijiazhuang in the Liberated Area to engage in counter-insurgency work, and Li Ding was assigned to the drama club of the Jin-Cha-Ji Party School. During the period, he starred in Guo Moruo's "Tiger Rune" and Zhang Zhen's "Chang'e" and other excellent works. In order to work, the organization asked Li Shouhai to change his name to Li Ding, and the name Li Ding has since entered thousands of households.
