It happened late at night on September 1, 2018.
At that time, Emily was only 17 years old, and she had just finished drinking with her friends and was on her way home.
She was accompanied by a male classmate who had known her for at least 5 years.
This boy is very unusual to Emily on weekdays.

At that time, they were walking on a bridge 25 feet (about 7.6 meters) high.
In an instant, the unsuspecting Emily fell straight down the bridge and onto the dirt road next to the canal.
Until now, she clearly remembers the "loud cracking sound" of her spine when it was hit, and every second of the fall is vividly remembered:

Emily was then rushed to Birmingham Hospital for treatment,

In addition to her spine, her vertebrae, four ribs and sternum were all broken, and her lungs were punctured.
For eight weeks, she couldn't even sit up, and was later transferred to a dedicated spinal injury center for rehabilitation.
After spending almost half a year in the hospital, Emily finally returned home.
Emily's life has changed completely, and she will be accompanied by physical pain day and night when she is only in her 10s.
With all her breasts paralyzed, she could no longer live without a wheelchair and the care of others.
In April, Emily had surgery again due to a cyst growing on her spine.
But after three years, she has been able to adjust her mindset, accept the status quo, and treat life positively:
"After waking up in the hospital, the doctor told me I couldn't walk anymore.
When I heard these words, my heart was completely broken.
But after all that has happened, I feel lucky now because I have the opportunity to have a second life.
I had to re-adapt to life, to learn to do something, and I lost everything I had.
But I'm still alive and breathing, and the people who love me are around me and supporting me.
I have learned how to love my present self and become a better person. ”
However, although it has been restarted from the mentality,
But there is still one thing that makes it difficult for her to put down, and she is grumpy,
That is, the "murderer" who threw her off the bridge never received the punishment she deserved.
In April 2019, the case was heard at the Birmingham Criminal Court,
Since the boy was 17 years old at the time of the crime, was still a minor and was protected by law, his name was never made public.
Moreover, taking into account various factors such as learning disabilities and age, the judge did not send the boy to prison in the end.
It was only a two-year Youth Rehabilitation order.
This is a community penalty to help adversary British youths re-enter society.
Emily was extremely disappointed with the result.
She didn't understand why someone who had ruined their life could be spared jail time:
"He ruined my life beyond recognition, but I didn't have to go to jail, and I think it's all too unfair."
