Endangered fish in supermarkets

author:Fifth Power Story

During the National Day, he returned to ningyang county, his hometown, and paid homage to the aquatic product cabinet of a supermarket, and sure enough, he opened his eyes and saw the aquatic products that the brick family had never seen before. Mainly freshwater fish, nothing else.

I really don't know it, and I'm shocked to see it. There are two species involved in conservation in the picture above: Chinese sturgeon/Acipenser sinensis and Matsue perch/Trachidermus fasciatus. Chinese sturgeon is a national level I key protected wild animal, which is probably unknown to everyone; and Songjiang perch in the minds of most people may still stay on the "thoughts of the sea bass", when mentioned, I think of eating, in fact, it is also a national key protected wild animal, class II, and so on idle eat it can not be.

It should be noted that species listed on the list of wildlife under national key protection are not all unpalatable, but must have mature artificial breeding technology and be approved by the forestry department, such as giant salamanders, and do not eat too many baby fish across the country. Chinese sturgeon does not seem to have been allowed to be marketed for consumption, and Songjiang sea bass is not farmed on a large scale, and it is probably criminally responsible to eat these two kinds of fish casually. Is the fish waiting to be slaughtered in the supermarket really a conservation species? Of course not, this is not Sun Erniang's shop, not so bold.

Figure 3: Sturgeon

To tell the truth, the supermarket's "Chinese sturgeon" and "Songjiang perch" are all gimmicks. "Chinese sturgeon" is also just that, at least farmed Shi's sturgeon or hybrid sturgeon, although not, but similar, the vast majority of "Chinese sturgeon" to attract customers are of this kind, it is not uncommon. "Matsue perch" can be outrageously fierce, the aquarium is full of carp, mirror carp / Cyprinus carpio var. specularis or leather carp. Mirror carp is a variant of carp, and ordinary carp is not essentially different, but the scales are different: mirror carp has several large scales, so commonly known as "three scales"; leather carp is selected from the mirror carp, basically a scale is also a, skin like leather, so it is called "leather carp".

Figure 4: Pike

This is the so-called "spotted arowana", the name is grandiose, high-end atmospheric, but its real identity is the white spotted pike / Esox lucius (or close relative species). Between this dragon and a dog, it is nothing less than a small place, is it a deception? I think it can't be counted, give the product an elegant and loud name, as long as it is not Zhang Guan Li Dai, fish eyes mixed beads, are reasonable. The aforementioned "Chinese sturgeon" and "Songjiang perch" are really deceptive customers, because these two fish are real species, but supermarkets are offering something else, which is obviously not very regular.

Fig. 5: Japanese eel

The three species of fish mentioned earlier, the mirror carp (or leather carp) and the pike fish, are all the first time I have seen it, but this is not relevant, where are the "endangered fish"? This is where the "river eel" in the picture above is named Japanese eel/Anguilla japonica. Before it was also a long-known name like thunder, this time the head encountered, but also alive, really a little surprise. Look at the price is 79 yuan / catty, a little expensive, but not to the extent of outrageous, called "endangered species" is not too aggressive? The future of the Japanese eel can be described as sad and bleak, and it is not certain that one day it will suddenly break off.

Japanese eels are not only produced in Japan, but they are indeed the most closely related to Japan, and are particularly popular in Japan, with eel rice and kayaki eels as the main fish. The life of the Japanese eel is a life of drifting and changeable, if it can live a full life. First born on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, after nine lives and one death into the freshwater river to grow, marry, and finally return to the sea again to lay eggs, die, and so on.

Fig. 6: Japanese eel

However, the world is full of dangers, Japanese eels have been ruthlessly robbed and killed by humans, although the absolute number is still very large, so that in our township such as the eighteen-line small county supermarket can also appear, but the trend and rate of population decline is too obvious, so that this year the Japanese eel encountered a serious fry shortage, the catch is only about 1% of the same period, it can be seen that it is not optimistic. Japanese eel is the only fingerling of all farmed fish that relies entirely on the harvesting of wild fry, and the cost of artificial breeding is extremely high, and there is no dawn of a complete solution.

Although the Japanese eel is not protected by our wildlife law (the eel protected in our country is another species, the eel/), the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed the Japanese eel and the American eel as endangered (EN) species, and it is by no means alarmist to say that they are endangered species. The law is not forbidden, that is, freedom, can not require people not to eat, but at least when eating should be respectful, "the whole clean, fine blowing and beating of the eating party", otherwise you are sorry for it...
