The "Shudu River Map" database was launched

Looking at the bookstore from a distance, it is like being in the middle of the water.

On October 30, at the 15th Minjiang Forum, the "Shudu River Map: Chengdu Natural History and Culture Database" was officially launched and open to the public free of charge. Among the 100 ancient maps dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties (including the earliest surviving map of Chengdu), the bustling city of Chengdu can be traced back 400 years.

Project leader Cao Jiang introduced that the "Shudu River Map" was jointly initiated by the Chengdu Urban River Research Association and the Geological Book Human Geography Knowledge Base in October 2020, and is a public welfare open collaboration project jointly participated by a number of units and well-known scholars.

The results of the first phase of the completed process, which are similar to e-books, have old map markers, that is, the points of the old map correspond to modern geographical locations or buildings, which is convenient for map readers to better understand the content of ancient maps. At present, 3,500 historical place names have been marked in the 100 ancient maps collected by various units at home and abroad; more than 100 existing natural and cultural landmarks associated with historical place names have been marked in 100 old photos from the end of the Qing Dynasty to 2000. Visualizing these labeled and associated natural and cultural landmarks can help people establish intuitive cognition and in-depth exploration of the changes in the natural and cultural landscapes of the region, laying the foundation for the development and protection of today's cities. The entire database project is expected to take 5 years to initially complete.
