The Pentagon tweet confirmed, "We mourn the tragic death of a police officer ... He was killed this morning in an emergency near the Pentagon. ”

The Associated Press quoted unnamed law enforcement officers as reporting that the suspect was Austin William Lanz, a 27-year-old Georgian, who attacked a Defense Department police officer on the platform on the morning of the 3rd.
