When Shanghai was liberated in 1949, Du Yuesheng originally had a solid foundation in Shanghai and lived a life of fine clothes and jade food, but his family moved, left Shanghai for Hong Kong Island, and did not dare to return to the mainland until his death.

An important reason was that Du Yuesheng killed a man named Wang Shouhua. So, who was Wang Shouhua, and why did Du Yuesheng kill him?

The three tycoons of the Green Gang

Wang Shouhua was born in 1901 in Zhuji, Zhejiang Province, to a family of intellectuals, whose father was a talent in the late Qing Dynasty and attached great importance to education. Under the education of his father, Wang Shouhua began to read and write from an early age, laying a good cultural foundation for him. Later, he was admitted to the Zhejiang Provincial First Normal School, where he accepted progressive ideas. In 1923, Wang Shouhua joined the organization and became a member of the Military Special Committee of the Shanghai District Committee, organized progressive activities on many occasions, commanded the workers' uprising, and was one of the main leaders of the anti-imperialist patriotic struggle in may thirtieth.

Wang Shouhua

Du Yuesheng is sleek and exquisite, and attaches great importance to handling relations with all parties. In the early days, he did not have a clear position, and even assisted our side in carrying out some activities, for this reason, Wang Shouhua, who was in charge of the labor movement in Shanghai, often dealt with Du Yuesheng, and the two were very familiar with each other, and according to the generations of the jianghu, Wang Shouhua was Du Yuesheng's uncle.

On March 21, 1927, Wang Shouhua organized the Shanghai Workers' Uprising and won the victory. Since then, the labor movement has developed rapidly, according to statistics, there are more than 500 trade unions that have joined the Federation of Trade Unions, with more than 800,000 members, more than 2,700 workers' pickets, more than 4,000 rifles and more than 20 machine guns. Jiang Shi saw that the Shanghai trade union was growing stronger, very nervous, and wanted to get rid of Wang Shouhua, but he was inconvenient to come forward, thought about it, and decided to let Du Yuesheng kill Wang Shouhua. This leader of the Green Gang also wanted to get capital by helping Jiang get rid of Wang Shouhua, and the two hit it off.

Shanghai workers' pickets

On April 11, 1927, after careful preparation, Du Yuesheng set up a "Hongmen Banquet" at home and invited Wang Shouhua to his home for dinner. Under the tense situation at that time, this dinner situation seemed a little strange, Wang Shouhua reported to the organization in time, and Luo Yinong, the head of Shanghai, proposed that it was best not to go for safety reasons. But Wang Shouhua insisted on going to the banquet, and he felt that this would better understand the other party's details, expose its conspiracy, and better unite the workers.

For safety reasons, the organization assigned Li Bozhi to accompany Wang Shouhua to go with him. When the two were about to arrive at Du Yuesheng's home, Wang Shouhua asked Li to park the car and wait for him near Du Yuesheng's residence, and once he did not come out after 2 hours, it would mean that an accident had occurred and he was asked to quickly report to the organization.

Our army marched into Greater Shanghai

Wang Shouhua entered Du Yuesheng's house and was surrounded by Du Yuesheng's thugs Rui Qingrong, Gao Xinbao, Ma Xiangsheng, Ye Zhuoshan, and others, and knocked unconscious with sticks. Du Yuesheng heard the scream and shouted loudly: "Don't do him in my house, otherwise no one will come to my house as a guest in the future and bury him alive!" ”

A few thugs put the unconscious Wang Shouhua into a sack and cruelly buried him in the Fenglin Bridge in western Huxi, where Wang Shouhua was sacrificed at the age of 26.

The next day, the General clan launched the "April 12" incident, the Shanghai trade union of more than 800,000 people became leaderless, thousands of workers were killed, and Shanghai was bleeding profusely, for which Du Yuesheng was rewarded by Chiang Kai-shek and was named a major general.

The citizens of Shanghai sang and danced to celebrate liberation

On the eve of the liberation of Shanghai, Jiang Shi invited Du Yuesheng to go to Taiwan Island, and the relevant departments also met with Du Yuesheng through secret channels, proposing that he be lenient and hoped that he would stay in Shanghai.

Du Yuesheng did not go to Taiwan Island, nor did he stay in Shanghai, but led the family to move to Hong Kong Island. Du Yuesheng suffered from asthma and was very unsuitable for the humid environment on the island, but Du Yuesheng knew that his sins were deep and did not leave Hong Kong Island for half a step until his death.

Before the liberation of Shanghai, the murderers of Wang Shouhua, Rui Qingrong and Gao Xinbao, had died, and Ma Xiangsheng and Ye Zhuoshan stayed in Shanghai with a fluke mentality because they were reluctant to give up Shanghai's property and property. In late 1950, Shanghai residents dug up Wang Shouhua's remains near the Fenglin Bridge. Soon, Ma Xiangsheng and Ye Zhuoshan were arrested and tried, and Ma Xiangsheng and Ye Zhuoshan were sentenced to death and shot at the site where Wang Shouhua was killed at Fenglin Bridge.

Du Yuesheng learned of the shooting after the arrest of Ma Xiangsheng and Ye Zhuoshan through the newspaper on Hong Kong Island, and the psychological pressure was very great, and he soon fell seriously ill and died on August 16, 1951. Before his death, his wish was to be buried in Shanghai, but he failed to do so.
