Since 2004, the Xinping Management and Conservation Bureau of Ailao Mountain National Nature Reserve in Yunnan has set up a ring monitoring station in Jinshan Yakou to carry out scientific research such as bird monitoring and environmental records. As of 2020, the New Leveling Management and Conservation Bureau has monitored a total of 52,466 nocturnal migratory birds and 51,854 rings. Through circumference and recycling records, it is possible to understand the species, main migration routes and laws, population changes, seasonal distribution and causes of death of migratory birds, and the laws revealed by them provide an important basis for the protection of birds and habitats.

On October 27 and 28, under the leadership of Wu Heqi, Doctor of Ornithology, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, the staff of xinping management and protection bureau conducted GPS rings on four wedge-tailed green doves, one hill sandpiper and one noisy crane. The staff told the Spring City Evening News- Open Screen News reporter that each GPS weighs 5-6 grams, and only strong large birds can use GPS rings.
It is understood that in 2015, the Jinshan Yakou Bird Monitoring Ring Zhi Station cooperated with the Kunming Institute of Zoology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to put on a GPS signal transmitter for a night heron and use satellite tracking technology to monitor its migration route. According to the data received, the night heron flew to Mojiang County, Ning'er County and Menghai County of Pu'er City after wearing a satellite tracker at Jinshan Yakou, and then lost its signal for several months and was suspected of flying into Myanmar (there was no signal reception when leaving the country). In May 2016, the night heron began to migrate again, passing through Yunnan, Guizhou and Sichuan, arriving in Chongqing's Yongchuan District, and began to migrate at the end of September 2016, and flew over Jinshan Yakou again in early October to Ninger County, Pu'er City.
