At the meeting, the Foundation summarized the main work of the past five years and elected a new board of directors.
Mr. Pan Shijian, former Vice Chairman of the CppcC Xiamen Municipal Committee, was appointed as the Chairman of the Seventh Council of the Foundation, and Liao Huasheng, Vice Mayor of Xiamen, issued a letter of appointment to him.
In the past five years, the Xiamen Foundation has actively raised, scientifically managed and rationally used education funds, and the foundation's assets and donations have increased compared with the previous council. From 2016 to 2020, the total income of the foundation reached 292.7564 million yuan, of which the donation income from all walks of life was 222.2721 million yuan, accounting for 75.92%. Compared with the donations raised by the previous council, it increased by 4.2824 million yuan, an increase of 1.48%. By the end of 2020, the assets of Xiamen Education Foundation totaled 287.8559 million yuan.
In the past five years, the total expenditure of the foundation was 213.9069 million yuan, of which the public welfare expenditure was 204.4583 million yuan, accounting for 95.57% of the total expenditure. Public welfare expenditure is mainly used for teaching awards, scholarships, condolences to sick teachers, assistance to students and subsidized schools to improve school running conditions, etc., to achieve "zero complaints" in the management and use of funds, and the proportion of income and expenditure meets the statutory requirements. In November 2016, the Foundation obtained the "Certificate of Public Fundraising Qualification for Charitable Organizations" issued by the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs, becoming the first organization in Fujian Province to be awarded. After being evaluated by the Provincial Department of Civil Affairs in November 2017, the foundation won the title of "5A Grade Social Organization" for the second time with high scores.
What is particularly noteworthy is that since 2016, the Charity Association has continued to carry out targeted poverty alleviation, funding a total of 8,799 poor students, totaling 48.9856 million yuan, of which 3,998 poor college students, totaling 24.209 million yuan. The foundation also pays attention to the development of humanistic care, and adopts the forms of door-to-door visits, fund awarding meetings, symposiums and other forms for subsidized students, and invites donors and beneficiary representatives to participate together with foundation representatives, so as to play the purpose of loving interaction, mutual education and common benefit.
In the past five years, in addition to focusing on supporting poor college students and seriously ill teachers, the foundation has also expanded the scope of its work, focusing on cultivating students' ideological character and cultural literacy. The foundation not only promotes patriotic education and scientific and cultural knowledge into the campus, but also further promotes the "Jiageng Spirit" through work.
