On October 29, 2021 local time, during his participation in the G20 summit in Rome, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi answered reporters' questions on the recent claims of the United States and other countries to support Taiwan's "active and meaningful participation in the United Nations system and the international community" during his participation in the G20 summit in Rome.
Wang Yi said that there is only one China in the world, the government of the People's Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China, and Taiwan is a part of China's territory.
Wang Yi stressed that the historical and legal facts of one China cannot be challenged, and the process of promoting the peaceful reunification of the motherland by 1.4 billion Chinese people is unstoppable. Taiwan's future has no future but reunification with the mainland. Taiwan has no status under international law other than that of China.
Wang Yi said that in 1971, the United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution 2758 by an overwhelming majority, deciding to restore China's legitimate seat in the United Nations, which has completely resolved the issue of China's representation in the United Nations and international organs politically, legally and procedurally.
Recent attempts by the United States and other individual countries to make a breakthrough on the Taiwan issue run counter to the political commitments they made when they established diplomatic relations with China, disregard the common will expressed by the vast number of member states in Resolution 2758, and are harmful to the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and to the destruction of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. They could not stop the one-China principle 50 years ago, and it is even less likely to succeed in the 21st century. If you insist on going your own way, you will pay the price you deserve.
