Sing more than Frozen 2! Trolls 2 sings your little universe

It's easy to think that toy-themed films started with the Lego Movie series (the first released in 2014), or the first Toy Story in 1995, but in fact toy makers and filmmakers have had this kind of business acumen a long time ago. For example, the "Transformers" series, as early as 1986, launched an animated feature film (TV animation is two years earlier), and such as the 1985 film version of "Love Bear", and even those cute electronic pet eggs also appeared in the 2007 film version of "Takuma Songko".

In contrast, troll dolls made their way to the big screen very late, and it wasn't until 2016 that they were adapted into the movie Trolls. In the sequel, Trolls 2, starring Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake continue to voice Queen Bobby and Bran.

Since the previous episode, the Elven Kingdom has been in harmony for a long time. However, that changed as Queen Bobby (voiced by Anna Kendrick) received a party invitation from Rock Queen Babbu (voiced by Rachel Bloom). Bobby didn't even know that there were other kingdoms outside of her jurisdiction, so she couldn't wait to visit the others.

She soon learned that there were actually six kingdoms in the world, each specializing in six different kinds of music: pop, rock, electronic, classical, country, and funk, each with a magical string. Unbeknownst to her, however, Babo intends to snatch all the strings and put them on her guitar to play a powerful chord that will allow rock to rule all kingdoms.

When Bobby and Bran (voiced by Justin Timberlake) learn of this despicable plan, they decide to stop her at all costs to maintain harmony throughout the world.

It's easy to downplay the toy-themed film as yet another mercenary marketing strategy aimed at selling more toys — which to be fair to say may be one of the film's main goals — but Trolls 2 is actually a delightful animated film with a lot of highlights, the most obvious of which is its animation.

Imagine a rainbow that keeps eating rainbow candy, eating it all the time, eating until the belly is as big as a drum and the brain is full of fat intestines. Then, suddenly unable to suppress it, Rainbow violently spat out the colorful candies in his abdomen everywhere. Trolls 2 looks like this.

Not only is the use of color eye-catching, but the treatment of different countries is also impressive. This movie is like a troll-themed video game, a dazzling world made up of different kingdoms. Coupled with very nice animations, this makes for a movie that is well worth watching. In contrast, the production team for Frozen 2 should have been a little embarrassed by the DreamWorks team's achievements in this film.

What disappoints Trolls 2 is the script. Of course, the film also has many problems, the most prominent of which is the script run by five screenwriters, which obviously lacks cohesion. Compared to the wonderful animation scenes from beginning to end, the tedious dialogue is undoubtedly quite disappointing.

Still, the film's music is worth appreciating, and some of its wonderful surreal visual scenes are also commendable. Even if you think of it as a standalone film, it's completely fine, so you don't have to spend time or energy watching the first one anymore.

Honestly, the Trolls series isn't the kind of anime that's generally popular, and it's easy to hate it because you're not interested, but it must be said that if we were forced to choose only one of the Trolls 2 and Frozen 2 on a loop, there's no doubt we'd choose Trolls 2.

Trolls 2 is full of crazy and unbridled energy, full of surprising quirky fun, even those weird scenes are often just right to be liked.
