Doomsday is a thriller drama film starring Vigo Mortsen, Curtie Smit-McPhee, and Charlize Theron.
Before the movie, I had already looked at the novel in general. When I closed the book, I was reminded of a movie starring Roberto Bernini, "A Beautiful Life."
I think of the end of the movie, the father and the child are caught in the Jewish concentration camp, the father wants to take the child to escape, but it is found, the father hides the child, and then the father makes up a lie: there is now a hide-and-seek game, who hides in the end is not discovered is the winner, and the prize, is a big tank!
At the end of the plot, the father is caught, the soldier holds a spear behind his back and asks him to follow the instructions, knowing that the child is watching his father, or posing with a naughty smile, and even imitating the posture of the gendarme stepping forward, after he leaves the child's line of sight, he walks to a dark corner, and then, there is a gunshot. And the child returned safely to his mother's arms.
Because they are all related to the plot of father-son affection and survival, I have an association, of course, "Beautiful Life" is not based on this axis, only part of it, and "Doomsday Danger" is relatively heavy, in the end of the day, a pair of fathers and sons face survival and morality, how do they do themselves and live.
The boy (Curtie Smit-McPhee) is innocent and kind, he wants to be a good person, he doesn't want to eat people, he pities other people who have no food and no clothes.
And the father (Vigo Mortensen) is helpless, although he wants to protect the child's simplicity, but the real environment is forced, in order to protect the child to survive, he has to do what he actually does not want to do, and even force the child to learn to take the gun, forcing himself to teach the child to know the cruelty of the world, and understand his own powerlessness, the child has hope and sincerity, and he insists on teaching the child to recognize reality.
In the age of cannibalism, the dangerous environment, the difficult world of survival, the father bears the heavy responsibility of protecting the child, but also carries the thought and heartache of his wife (Charlize Theron) along the way.
He wants the child to forget his mother, but he still remembers the past with his wife, in the movie, the world is monotonous gray, but the memory is a vivid color, even if the man forces himself to lose the ring and the photo, he still can't forget. As the book says: People always remember what they want to forget, forget what they want to remember.
"I'm the one who deserves all this sorrow, right?" When the psychological load reaches its limit, the boy's insistence on human nature conflicts with the man's principle of survival, and the father finally can't help but yell at the child, and the child also cries and shouts back.
The struggle between right and wrong, the perception of good and evil makes them chaotic, and the pressure of survival makes them physically and mentally exhausted. After releasing their inner pain, they continue to move forward on a long road, but even if they recognize the reality, they still decide to stick to their ideas until their father falls.
Is the wife's choice right or wrong? She did not want children, the husband insisted, because the husband did not despair, but the wife with a motherhood mentality, even if she died, it did not matter, she did not want the child to be born to suffer, in a world of doom, she could foresee how dangerous the future of the child would be.
In the end, maybe still choose to escape, the wife walked into the cold winter world to end her life, I look at it from another point of view, she chose to sacrifice, asking for death is her original plan, she does not let her beloved husband and children see her death brings greater pain, and into the darkness, it is she who gives her husband and children a greater chance of survival.
The angle from which I watch the movie is selfish, of course, selfishness is for Vigo, in some clips, I sit in my seat, scolding in my heart how the boy is so ignorant, the father is to protect you only to do so, don't you know that your behavior will be easy to bring danger!

The father in "Beautiful Life" tries to prevent the child from seeing the cruelty, the father in "The End of the Road" wants the child to accept the cruelty, both are fathers who are trying to survive, in different types of danger, in different ways to save the child, and the same between them is the love for the child.
In order to protect their children, men carry a heavy burden, which is a heavy burden that I cannot imagine and cannot bear to live in this rich era. However, he carried it on his back. Then hold the child and walk bravely on the long road of seeking survival.

Even if the father's life is gone, the light of hope will continue from the child and never die.
