Why did Zhu Yuanzhang's eighth son set himself on fire and die! Is it really Chen Youyu's widow?

Text/Lone Goose

In April of the twenty-third year of Hongwu (1390), Zhu Yuanzhang, the ming emperor, received heartbreaking news that his eighth son, Zhu Zi the Prince of Tan, had set himself on fire with his princess in Changsha and died. Regarding the reason for Zhu Zi's self-immolation, this kind of theory has been circulating in the anecdotes, and even Wang Jun, a cabinet scholar in the middle of the Ming Dynasty, is convinced of this! What exactly is this saying? In fact, Zhu Zi was the widow of Zhu Yuanzhang's nemesis, Chen Youyi! What's going on here? And look at the editors of "5,000 Years" one by one!

1. Wang Jun's statement: King Tan is Chen Youyi's widow

Wang Jun, a generation of famous courtiers during the Zhengde period, was praised by Wang Shouren as a "perfect person", and he once elaborated on the causes and consequences of the self-immolation incident of Zhu Zi, the king of Tan. The thing is, after Zhu Yuanzhang killed Chen Youyu that year, he captured many of Chen's wives and concubines, and Zhu Yuanzhang said to them: "Since I started the army, I have not taken any children. Now friends forgive me for three offenses against jinling, four offenses against my taiping, I hate it very much! So Zhu Yuanzhang included one of the women in the harem, and later this woman gave birth to Zhu Zi.

Zhu Yuanzhang was proclaimed empress dowager, and Zhu Zi was given the title of King of Tan. When Zhu Zi became an adult, he wanted to go to the fiefdom of Changsha to take office, and before leaving, his mother told the King of Tan of his life, "ErnaiHan King Chen Youyi, Ru Father was killed, I died here for Ru Ren, he should be his father to restore this Yan Ye!" Later, when king Tan rebelled in Changsha, Zhu Yuanzhang sent Xu Da's son to quell the rebellion, and Zhu Zi closed the city gate and wrote on a bronze plaque that read, "Rather see the King of Yan than the King of Thieves", and throw it under the city. Zhu Zi then set fire to the palace and committed suicide by jumping into the city with his young son in his arms!

2. Ming Dynasty history books say: King Tan committed suicide in fear of sin

In order to decipher the lineage of Zhu Zi, the king of Tan, we must know why he committed suicide, whether it was the failure of the rebellion, or other reasons. According to the official history books of the Ming Dynasty, king Tan committed suicide in fear of sin. The official view of the Ming Dynasty was that Zhu Zi, the King of Tan, committed suicide in fear of sin. Previously, Zhu Zi's father-in-law, yu Xian, the former military governor, was involved in the "Hu Party", and at this time Yu Xian was dead, and Zhu Yuanzhang killed his son Yu Hu's entire family. When the news reached Changsha, Zhu Zi, the King of Tan, was restless. At this time, Zhu Yuanzhang sent emissaries to "comfort" and summon him to the DPRK. At this time, Zhu Zi was even more frightened, and in a panic, he and Princess Yu set themselves on fire and died.

3. Historical truth: confusing, true and false is difficult to distinguish

Zhu Zi's mother was indeed Chen Youyi's concubine, and Zhu Yuanzhang himself did not deny this. However, according to the official account of the Ming Dynasty, Zhu Zi was born in September of the second year of Hongwu (1369), and Chen Youyu died in 1363, a difference of six years in between, so Zhu Zi could not be Chen Youyu's widow. If we have to say that the widow is widowed, Zhu Zi's half-brother Zhu Yu (born in 1364) is more likely, so Zhu Zi's claim of an illegitimate son is essentially unrealistic.

Zhu Zi's age has not changed, we do not know, but there are still problems! That is the real reason why the official history books of the Ming Dynasty covered up Zhu Zi's suicide! It is said above that Zhu Zi committed suicide because his wife and brother were involved in the "Hu Dang case", and the second "Hu Dang case" was headed by Li Shanchang, and when Li Shanchang was killed, Yu Hu and others were killed in May, while Zhu Zi self-immolated in early April, and there was a leap April in the middle, that is to say, there was at least fifty days in between, that is to say, when Zhu Zi set himself on fire, Yu Hu was not dead!

5,000 years Editor Lone Goose Comments:

The history of the early Ming Dynasty is confusing, which is related to the emperor's drastic falsification of history at that time. Zhu Yuanzhang was an emperor with a very high reputation, and in order to cover up some facts, he often revised the history books; in addition, Zhu Di ascended to the throne through "JingNan" and made great changes to the history of the Hongwu Dynasty. For Zhu Zi's death, we can only speculate based on the existing historical data, and the truth may have been revealed, or it may have been covered up forever.
