Make chess a lifelong career

Pascal was born in May 1991 to a family of teachers in Berlin, Germany, to parents who studied chess. In 2001, Pascal, who was in middle school, took chess, and at first he didn't want to spend too much time on it, and once the study plan was changed, "Dad said, don't rush to give up, first insist on it will definitely be rewarded." Pascal told reporters in a fluent Chinese. Since then, his professionalism has improved rapidly, and he has no opponents in the class in less than two months, and in 2002 he joined a local club in Berlin.

Subsequently, he represented Germany in youth chess competitions many times, winning several individual championships and team championships, becoming a rising star in the German chess world. In 2017, he also represented the European united team in the "Blindfold" 1-on-26 Guinness World Record Challenge held in China, and he did not give up when the game was at a disadvantage, making the opponent "blind and wrong" and becoming the only overseas chess player to win the opponent.

Fall in love with China and marry a Chinese girl

As an old friend of Sino-German chess exchanges and a volunteer of the German Youth Chess Association, Pascal came to Bengbu from September 2018 to February 2019 to work and live for half a year, and then returned to Bengbu in October 2019. During his stay in Bengbu, Pascal and the teachers of Bengbu Chess Academy have carried out public welfare chess teaching and cultural exchange activities in many schools, and their superb chess skills, standard Chinese and spoken language have left a good impression on teachers and students.

In 2018, on the recommendation of Bengbu Chess Academy, he went to Chengdu as a volunteer to participate in the competition and met Li Na, a beautiful and generous Chinese girl and intern referee. In 2020, Pascal and Li Na were married in Germany.

He also told reporters that now he not only likes Chinese culture, but also changes in food tastes, likes tea culture, likes to eat spicy, in Bengbu he often goes to eat crayfish, river bean cake, beef soup, but also likes Bengbu drinking "fried dumplings".

Pascal said, "Although it is now affected by the epidemic, the exchange of Chinese-German culture and chess cannot be interrupted. Under the active promotion of Yu Jihong, president of Bengbu Chess Academy, a Sino-German chess online match will be held on August 15, and German and Bengbu chess players will have "face-to-face" exchanges on the Internet. From September 11 to 12, an online exchange activity of the Sino-German Chess Culture Network will also be held.
