In the old town of Yumen, not far from the Laojunmiao Oil Production Plant in Yumen Oilfield, the cradle of China's "petroleum industry", the teaching building of the "Yumen Iron Man Cadre College" is very solemn, and there is an endless stream of people who come here to study and visit.

In 2018, in order to dig deeper into the "Iron Man Spirit", Yumen relied on the rich industrial relics and red resources of the old city and Yumen Oilfield to build the Yumen Iron Man Cadre College. It has become a well-known red education base in Gansu.

Wang Jinxi was born in 1923 in Yumen, Gansu Province. The bitter experience and the harsh living environment have cultivated his strong and tenacious character. In 1938, 15-year-old Wang Jinxi came to the Yumen oil mine as a small worker.

In 1950, Wang Jinxi passed the operation assessment and became the first generation of drilling workers in New China. During this period, many drilling rigs stopped drilling because there was no drill bit, so he organized a youth commando team to find old drill bits from the waste pile, wipe off rust, repair and match, and assemble into usable drill bits, which not only saved the country's expenses, but also did not delay production, and the experience was promoted throughout the oil field.

In 1956, Wang Jinxi joined the Communist Party of China. In 1958, he led the team to set a national drilling record of 5,009 meters per month. In 1959, Wang Jinxi was selected as a national model worker and a representative of the national "Workers' Fair heroes" and went to Beijing to participate in the National Day ceremony. He saw gas bags on the bus and felt stressed and responsible. "The country has no oil, so what qualifications do oil workers have to be praised?" He said.

In September 1959, when news came that a large oil field had been discovered in the Songliao Basin, Wang Jinxi immediately reported it and asked to join the war. After receiving approval, he led the 1205 drilling team to Daqing day and night. He organized the whole team of employees to reduce the drilling rig equipment weighing more than 60 tons into pieces, and "people pulled shoulders" to carry and install the drilling rig. In order to solve the shortage of water supply, Wang Jinxi led the workers to break the ice to get water, and the "basin end bucket lift" transported water to protect the drill. When the second well was hit, a blowout suddenly occurred, and he took the lead in jumping into the cement slurry pool and stirring it with his body, despite his leg injury. After the hard work of the whole team of workers, the blowout was finally suppressed, and the drilling rig and oil well were saved.

Due to years of fighting in the front line, Wang Jinxi became ill with labor and died in 1970 due to ineffective medical treatment.

The fearless spirit of "Iron Man" Wang Jinxi who used his life to fulfill his oath has influenced generations of petroleum people. The reporter interviewed in Yumen Oilfield and found that the current oil people are interpreting the inheritance and adherence of the "Iron Man Spirit" with practical actions.

Today, the Yumen Oilfield, where Wang Jinxi fought, has gone through 82 years of development and construction and is facing the current situation of depletion of oil and gas resources. Yumen Oilfield in its old age has set up the "double hundred" ambition of crude oil production weighing millions of tons and building a century-old oilfield; at the same time, it has accelerated the construction of electrolyzed water hydrogen production projects, accelerated energy transformation, and continued to contribute to ensuring national energy security.
