Interview with Takashi Miike: I also envy the talents of others

With a unique aesthetic of violence and a whimsical black humor, Takashi Miike considers himself an outlier of Japanese directors. He has shown his talent in films such as "Killer Ah Yi", "Hot Blood College" series, "Thirteen Assassins" and other films, and he officially announced that he will direct a mainland action comedy in China a few days ago. The film, produced by Hong Jinbao, is expected to start in April and May next year.

At this year's Cannes Film Festival, Takashi Miike talked about his "violent" label: "Director Wen Yuan Ziwen and I belong to the outliers of Japanese directors. 99% of Japanese movies are not violent, and some people may feel that they should stand up and make a balance, and I am the remaining 1%. ”

During his visit to China, Takashi Miike was interviewed exclusively by the Beijing News, talking about several other Japanese directors who have been active in international film festivals over the years, he said: "Other directors have talents that I do not have, on the one hand, I am a little jealous, on the other hand, as a fan and an audience, I am also very envious and appreciative." ”

● I don't think I'm as violent as Director Yuan Ziwen.

● Many of the works of director Takeshi Kitano are violent, and the setting itself, the description, and the ending are all showing a kind of violence. At the same time, he is a director who tells the truth to the audience. He uses movies to show the truth of life and the misfortunes of the characters, and tells the audience a truth, that is, many things do not always harvest a happy ending like movies. This practice of not lying to the audience is also a kind of warmth.

● Kore-eda's work also has a special personality, which I think is extremely related to his way of life and existence. If he doesn't make a movie, he is likely to be a white-collar office worker.

● I care a lot about director Kiyoshi Kurosawa, who has an overwhelming talent. He is sometimes more of a writer than a director. On the other hand, director Kiyoshi Kurosawa's talent is sometimes not well captured by the producers, and he and I are two completely opposite beings.
