From September 26 to October 31, the 9th Butterfly Exhibition of Shanghai Zoo arrived as scheduled.
This year's butterfly exhibition focuses on the ecology and culture of local butterflies in Shanghai, showing China's native farmed butterflies and honey source plants that are inseparable from butterflies. During the event, exciting butterfly releases, fragrant butterfly gardens, unique science exhibitions and edutainment science popularization activities will create a wonderful multi-sensory experience for visitors, feel the interesting beauty of biodiversity, and guide the public to pay attention to the environment and protect nature.
At around 10 a.m. this morning, the live butterfly release ceremony was held in the butterfly garden. Under the guidance of the shanghai zoo keepers, the children carefully released the beautiful colorful butterflies into the air. Thousands of butterflies fly and are full of splendor, bringing the magic and beauty of nature to mankind. It is understood that about 30 species and nearly 70,000 colorful live butterflies will be released in one month.
In order to let the public pay more attention to and understand the native species of our country, the butterflies released this time are all native breeding butterflies in China, most of which are also local species in Shanghai, such as jade belt phoenix butterfly, vegetable powder butterfly, Fei leopard butterfly, etc., which is also one of the highlights of this year's butterfly exhibition.
Strolling through the garden, the colorful vegetable powder butterfly and the Leopard Butterfly jump into view; the white-banded butterfly and the citrus butterfly sometimes stop quietly and sometimes fly long; the dead leaf butterfly is a well-known mimetic species, and its appearance is exactly the same as that of the dead leaves when it is stationary.
The Butterfly Pavilion is the main exhibition hall of this butterfly exhibition at the rear of the two climbing halls of Shanghai Zoo and at the end of the main road of the park gate, which remains open during the butterfly exhibition. In order to create a suitable living environment for butterflies, the museum is also a tropical scenery, arranged with rich honey source plants: bougainvillea, dragon boat flowers, five-colored plums, fragrant finches, etc., hanging flower balls, placing butterfly orchids that resemble butterflies. In addition, butterfly host plants are arranged: lemon (host of large butterflies), kumquat (host of butterflies), cone hydrangeas (host of silk butterflies). A wide variety of flowers create a natural and comfortable environment for butterflies, and the spray installations in the museum are open regularly, the fog is filled, and a fairyland-like butterfly garden is also created for visitors.
In addition, in the butterfly garden, many plant trunk branches or hanging or sticking various shapes of butterfly pupae, there is a large feathering tree (popular science page), visitors who want to understand the knowledge of butterfly feathering, you can see the wonderful process of pupae into butterflies up close. Fresh butterfly pupae will also be added regularly for visitors to see, and thousands of butterfly pupae will be used to display.
Shanghai Zoo has launched a series of butterfly-themed science popularization activities, including parent-child activities, special lectures, tourists' independent exploration, bazaars and other forms, which are rich in content and entertaining. It is worth mentioning that a number of precious butterfly specimens were exhibited at the Shanghai Zoo Science and Education Museum. There are the big blue butterfly with the light and damage of the "Venus of Beauty", the goddess of light butterfly known as "the most beautiful butterfly in the world", the crane-top pink butterfly of China's largest pink butterfly, the owl ring butterfly with "horror eyes", the most beautiful paradise butterfly in Australia, and the swallow butterfly of the world's smallest phoenix butterfly.

3. Tourists explore independently
During the Butterfly Exhibition, visitors can take the Exploration Folding Leaflet at the starting point of the entrance of the two climbing halls to explore independently and complete the relevant butterfly knowledge quiz.
4. Butterfly Market
Shanghai Zoo and Changning District Labor Technology Education Center cooperated to open a butterfly market in the Science and Education Center, and various DIY activities such as paper bookmarks, butterfly fan paintings, and butterfly soft pottery will be carried out on the spot, as well as butterfly-themed cultural and creative charity sales made by students from some primary and secondary schools in Changning District, and all the proceeds of the charity sale will be donated to Changning Special Vocational School.
