Among them, Lushan monkeys have the most conflicts with tourists, between 2013 and 2016, Lushan monkeys injured more than 490 people, an average of more than 100 cases per year.
<h1>Why do monkeys attack people</h1>
Monkeys attack tourists for three reasons.
An abnormal contact caused by the high tension caused by the disappearance of space and psychological security between the two sides, many people are easily confused by the size and appearance of the monkey, the monkey is extremely aggressive, as long as it is judged that the people around it are dangerous, they will make bites, scratches and other actions. The researchers also found that monkeys mostly targeted adult tourists and threatened children, especially young children, much less often.
One is foraging behavior, monkeys are mostly omnivorous, mainly plant-based, and do not give up meat at their fingertips. Food selection and feeding methods vary, but after the monkeys take food from humans, the monkeys will learn from each other by observing the behavior of their companions, thus forming a foraging habit, the study of Monkey Island in Hainan Nanwan shows that about 45% of the monkeys attacking people are initiated by monkeys, and the most frequent monkey attack behavior is to rob food and backpacks, and the root cause of snatching backpacks is also because monkeys believe that there is food inside.
In addition to this, they snatch tourists' glasses, cameras, hats, etc., and even steal cash from ticket offices to extort food.
The researchers looked at different groups of monkeys over time and found that the incidence of robbery and extortion was highest among the groups with the most contact with tourists, and the "crime" rate was also higher in groups with more young male members.
The last one is the "pass-through attack," which we all know has very clear hierarchical relationships, which refer to a social state, a social relationship between individuals, rather than an action. The hierarchical relationship is the result of the long-term adaptation of animals together, because it not only helps to maintain the stability of the population and avoid the expansion of fighting and casualties between individuals, but also allows the young and weak to be protected by the group.
Since there is a hierarchy gap, there will certainly be a conflict. There are often conflicts within the same group in which the dominant individual (such as Monkey King A) attacks the inferior individual (such as Monkey B), and the inferior individual (Monkey B) often takes the form of passing on the contradiction to attack the nearby individual who is lower than himself (Monkey Base C), which is not only a kind of anger, they sometimes attract the high-level individual who originally attacked themselves (Monkey King A) to stop attacking themselves (Monkey B) and attack the lowest level individual (Monkey B) together (Monkey B). [At present, the widely accepted criterion for judging the merits of the hierarchy in academia is that when one individual wins more in competitive interactions than another individual, the former is called the dominant individual and the latter is called the inferior individual. 】
In the wild, this kind of pass-through is at most pushed to the unlucky egg with the lowest status in the monkey group, but in the scenic spot, the problem arises that the monkeys who are eager to find a lower level than themselves to pass on the contradiction suddenly aim at the nearby tourists, and they are likely to regard the tourists as the next stick that can pass on the contradictions even lower than their own status, which can easily cause the monkey group to attack a group of tourists.
You see, monkeys not only despise your combat effectiveness, but also incidentally despise your social status.

Like the Sichuan Lushan macaque disaster, between 2008 and 2009, the scenic spot also purchased a long-acting oral contraceptive pill, mixed in the daily stock of corn, try to implement contraception for monkeys, but may be because of too small numbers, monkeys eat, there is no contraceptive effect, later, the local forestry bureau plans to trap 100 to send to the field, but only 8 fooled in 1 day.
At present, many scenic spots can only hire a number of monkey area administrators, responsible for feeding the monkeys every day, while reminding tourists to pay attention to safety, do not play with monkeys, put away food and drinks, so as not to be attacked, and help tourists drive away monkeys.
