At about 20:00 on the 14th, the Information Office of the People's Government of Cangyuan Wa Autonomous County issued a notice through the "Weibo Cangyuan" saying that the fire occurred at 17:40 and there were no casualties. At about 23:00, the latest local notification said that after all-out efforts to put out the fire, the fire has been initially controlled, and the cause of the fire is under further investigation.

The video at the scene showed that a large number of houses in the village were on fire, a large amount of smoke came out of the scene, and some houses were burned down, leaving only the part above the foundation, and firefighters rushed to the scene for emergency rescue.

At about 23:00 on the 14th, Yang Guangwen, a villager in Wengding Village, told the Beijing News reporter that when the village was on fire in the afternoon, he was not in the village, and he rushed back to the village after receiving a call from his family. "The fire was so fierce that of the 105 houses in our village, 4 of them were not burned."

According to Yang Guangwen, the 4 houses that were lightly affected by the fire were close to the roadside, the traffic was more convenient, and the firefighters could quickly use the fire truck to extinguish the fire after arriving at the village in the afternoon, "Other houses because in the village, the fire truck cannot go in, and the fire cannot be extinguished in time, so the final burning is more serious." ”

Yang Guangwen said the fire began to spread from a higher place in the eastern part of the village, "because the houses in our village are made of bamboo and wood, and the roofs are all thatched." As soon as the wind began to blow, it blew the fire to the other house and burned it together. The fire spread particularly quickly, and many houses were burned down. After the fire, Yang Guangwen and the villagers found that the fire could not be easily extinguished, so they cooperated with the firefighters to rescue the old man in the house.

According to Yang Guangwen, there are 105 houses in Laozhai, but only a dozen residents still live in Laozhai, and the rest have been moved to Xincun. "Before, it was said that the old village should be re-planned, so many people have moved to the new village one after another. The houses on this side of the new village are all concrete structures, more than 700 meters away from the old village, so they have not been affected by the fire. ”

After the fire, the residents of Laozhai were resettled to a hotel at the entrance of the village. Yang Wenguang has previously moved to the new village, but his house in Laozhai has been burned down and is still undergoing follow-up disposal work.

According to public information, Wengding Village is a natural village under the jurisdiction of Mengjiao Dai and Yi Lahu Township in Cangyuan Wa Autonomous County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province, with an area of 6.3 square kilometers, which is the most complete original ecological village preserved in China's Wa history, culture and traditional architecture, and was once praised by China National Geographic magazine as "the last primitive tribe". "Ondin" in Wa means a place where clouds are shrouded, and it also means the spirit show of the high mountain Baiyun Lake.

On March 31, 2020, the Wengding Primitive Tribal Cultural Tourism Zone was rated as a national 4A-level tourist attraction by the Quality Rating Committee of Yunnan Provincial Tourist Scenic Spots.
