The WorldSkills 2021 Symposium will be held from October 25 to 29 in Shanghai, China. Relevant people revealed today that the seminar will be broadcast live online and offline, and the topics mainly involve three aspects: green skills development, employment and poverty, and the future of apprenticeships.
WorldSkills 2021 will revisit the impact of COVID-19 on green skills development, employment and poverty, and apprenticeships. The conference will analyse available data and trends at the global and regional levels, allowing participants to draw lessons from the crisis and find solutions to relevant issues.
The Green Job Skills section will assess the progress made so far in greening the VET system. This topic will help the VET system and stakeholders to integrate into green skills activities.
The latest World Bank research predicts that as many as 150 million people around the world will be plunged back into extreme poverty by the end of 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The negative impacts are particularly devastating for the least developed countries and vulnerable and marginalized groups, such as unskilled workers, migrants, persons with disabilities and women. The Skills Poverty Reduction topic will explore how governments can contribute to economic growth to create productive jobs and advance poverty alleviation.
The Future of Apprenticeships feature will assess the response of apprenticeships to COVID-19 over the past 18 months and identify some of these successful models. With the participation of the European Commission, the British Council, the International Labour Organisation and UNESCO, the Future of Apprenticeships will examine the resources available to policymakers and providers to improve apprenticeships and enable them to play a role in the aftermath of covid-19.
