"Back then, we took the tinder from the older generation of musicians such as Li Delun, and now the tinder is going to be passed on to younger faces. Only in this way can our musical career develop and pass on. As Yu Long, chairman of the Art Committee, said, the Beijing International Music Festival has been nurturing young musicians.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of Stravinsky's death and the 70th anniversary of Schoenberg's death, and on the evening of October 18, jin Yukuang, a young conductor born in 2000, joined hands with the neo-classical chamber orchestra composed of young performers after 00 to debut in the Red Pavilion, with the theme of "Pioneering and Inheritance", presenting the works of two very different modernist masters, making this concert full of inheritance and innovation.

Stravinsky's Four Preludes and Fugues in the Average Law, adapted from Bach's Collected Keyboard Pieces on the Average Law, is his work at the end of his life. In the evening, this group of post-00s young musicians lived up to expectations and presented the Chinese premiere of "Four Preludes and Fugues" with excellent performances. Led by Jin Yumin, who has won the runner-up of the two international conducting competitions of Hachaturyan and Only Stage, this group of post-00s performers has given this classic Baroque music a fresher and bolder interpretation.
In the second half, Schoenberg's classic work "Sublimation Night" was more delicate and precise under the interpretation of young performers, showing Schoenberg's unique artistic charm. At the end of the concert, the Neoclassical Chamber Orchestra performed "Summer" from Vivaldi's "Four Seasons", and the youthful vitality of this group of young people infected all the audiences through the enthusiasm and vitality conveyed by the music.
"We are a young orchestra." As the initiator of the orchestra, the young conductor Jin Yukuang introduced the neoclassical chamber orchestra in this way. Founded in 2020 and premiered on January 8, 2021, the Neoclassical Chamber Orchestra performed Stravinsky's Dumbarton Oaks and Copeland's Aparachian Spring.
"For the premiere, we challenged the extremely difficult 'Apalachian Spring', which required every musician not to think as a member of the group, and everyone had to be a soloist, because everyone's voice was different and no one could rely on it. Now that we think about it, we are very confident. Jin Yukuang said that the reason why the orchestra was named "Neoclassical Chamber Orchestra" was that on the one hand, the orchestra's first performance successfully performed the difficult works of the neoclassical period; on the other hand, it did not want to be limited by this name, but injected fresh blood into China's classical industry. "We hope that the neoclassical chamber orchestra can become a new highlight in the classical music industry and give everyone more new experiences."
Lin Ruifeng, who played as a violin soloist at the closing concert of the 23rd Beijing International Music Festival and won the "Young Musician Award", is also one of the founders of the Neoclassical Chamber Orchestra and the principal violinist of the orchestra. On the stage of the music festival for the second time, Lin Ruifeng had a different experience, "Playing in the orchestra this year is a very fresh experience for me. I wish I could try more than just being a soloist. ”
Although these young people still have a childish face, their serious and good performance on the stage impressed the audience. Zou Shuang, artistic director of the Beijing International Music Festival, revealed, "For this concert in the Red Pavilion, this group of young people has been busy for more than half a year, they have spent a lot of time discussing the repertoire, and they are still adjusting before the performance. This is also rare in the entire industry, and this kind of momentum of young people is worthy of recognition. Zou Shuang said, "They were the first orchestra to perform non-opera works in the Red Pavilion, and it was the Chinese premiere, which is of great significance." This performance is not only the beginning of a new era in the Red Pavilion, but also the beginning of a new trend of supporting young musicians at the Beijing International Music Festival. ”
It is worth mentioning that before this performance, Zou Shuang, artistic director of the Beijing International Music Festival, officially announced that the neo-classical chamber orchestra won the 2021 "Nestlé Cup - Young Musician Award". Jin Yukuang, the initiator of the Neoclassical Chamber Orchestra and a young conductor, accepted the honor on behalf of the orchestra and expressed his gratitude. On October 23rd, the Neo classical chamber orchestra will also join hands with four piano children at the Zhongshan Music Hall to bring St. Sang's "Animal Carnival", with the theme of commemorating the master, showing the multiple reflections of music.
