July 2021 seems like a long time for me, and there will be such a perception, probably because my growth has taken a qualitative leap forward in this month.

My biggest success this month has been finding and validating my talent. I am particularly grateful that I signed up for this edition of the Joyful Words Book Club, and I just happened to encounter the theme that I particularly needed at the moment.

What is talent? Ken Robinson, author of "Let Talent Be Free," says that talent is a combination of talent and passion. That is to say, talent is a combination of love and good at it.

I have loved reading since elementary school and have never given up over the years. I didn't know before that the ordinary thing of "reading" can also be a person's talent. It was this time the topic reading pointed me out.

Although I am not particularly "good at" reading now, there is no system, there is no methodology of my own, and I do not read enough, but I believe that love is innate, and being good at it can be built acquired.

So I need to take the time to develop the habit of reading now and build reading to my advantage.

After reading two books on the theme of talent and writing 14 reading notes, I not only regained my enthusiasm for reading, but also greatly improved in writing reading notes.

This improvement is reflected in the fact that I am becoming more and more proficient in writing reading notes, the quality is getting better and better, and the teacher also said that I have made great progress in output when commenting.

I feel that when I enter a state of flow while reading and writing notes, the results will be very satisfactory. The improvement of output is not only due to the high quality of the content of the book, but also to the improvement of my concentration and comprehension.

I developed and shared my self-regulatory plan for the second half of the year and the July plan in early July. Some readers left a message saying that it is very powerful to be able to accomplish so many things in a month.

I wrote my plans for July on a punch card page, and checked in every day when I was done.

The fact is that after a month, some of the things in the plan are highly completed, that is, there are many √ (daily review, circle of friends output, reading), some things are zero completed (listening to English, watching TED), and some have sporadic √ (learning time management classes, learning English enlightenment nursery rhymes).

When writing this July summary, one of my biggest insights is that there are many things to do in a unit of time, which is very powerful, but it is also very powerful to focus on something and quickly get promoted.

So instead of feeling disappointed that the plan wasn't fully completed, I was thankful that this July plan punch card sheet let me know in my subconscious which things are automatically at the top of the list of priorities and which things may be put aside.

So when I'm making plans for August, I can be targeted, focused, and abandoned.

The second realization of this month is also the progress of my thinking: to distinguish between goals and means.

I used to obsess over getting up early to study. But after being interrupted by the baby's precious focus time, I stopped staring at "getting up early" anymore.

Why should I get up early?

It's about getting a whole chunk of time that belongs only to you.

Is it possible without getting up early?

The answer is yes, and I've practiced it 2 times.

My approach is to sleep with the baby at night. After about 3 hours of sleep, I will wake up automatically, which is about 21:00 to 00:00.

When I got up, I did the simple chores I needed to do, prepared the next breakfast, and then sat back at my desk, after which I had about 2 hours of undisturbed focus. (Baby sleeps well at night, not easy to wake up)

After completing the learning task, go to bed, and then wake up with your baby, and you can sleep for 3 to 4 hours. This method guarantees sleep duration and focus periods.

Of course I don't do that every day.

It is best to get up and study immediately after the baby falls asleep, from 21:00 to 23:00 to sleep, in fact, you can also have 2 hours of concentration time.

If you can try to get up between 4 and 5 o'clock in the morning, the chance of being disturbed by the baby is also relatively small.

Adjustments continued in August.

The book "The Shapeable Me" mentions:

"Self-discipline does not have to be done according to the time point every day, but it can be a good balance of what needs to be done within this period of time, balancing their emotions."

That's all I did this month. Maybe the plan can't keep up with the change, but one of the characteristics of self-discipline is that you can immediately adjust the plan and complete the goal.

Overall, July was the perfect start to the second half of the year. Compared with the first half of the year, both ideological awareness and execution have risen a notch.

I love that state, and that's how often I've been pursuing. Next, keep this frequency and achieve a bigger boost.
