Through the alleys of Shanghai, walk through the modern neighborhoods, stroll through the Shikumen to appreciate the Shanghai style, under the flashing neon to appreciate the bustling modernity of the Shanghai metropolis, is engraved in the bones of the city's era memory, but also belongs to the historical content of old Shanghai. When you enter the hotel, it is as if you have traveled through the overlapping old times, and your thoughts drift to the bustling and charming night Shanghai with the change of the space scene...
The hotel in this case was transformed by Wanjing Centennial, formerly known as Shanghai Yuanyi Hilton, located in Gubei, Hongqiao, and has been open for more than ten years.

Over the years, Wanjing, who has accumulated rich experience in "global vision and localization practice", as a designer who combines the thinking of Party A and Party B, has a solution to the cost control and operation logic of commercial hotels according to local conditions.
Therefore, when renovating the hotel in this case, Wanjing Centennial was within the controllable range of the customer's cost budget, not limited to the expression of creativity, but also provided a space solution beyond expectations from the perspective of investors and users, and helped the realization of commercial returns with high-quality functional scenes. The renovated Hilton Shanghai Xiangyuan Hongqiao Hotel vividly interprets the ancient and modern, modern and contemporary of Shanghai.

Break the mold and create flexible, complex function scenes
In the renovation design of the Executive Lounge, the designer proposed a subversive plan, breaking the original convention that the Executive Lounge was only used by executive room users.
The designer uses the mobile partition that can be opened and closed as an important medium to separate each area, and applies it to each transition point of the space, which not only creates a spacious environment of open sharing, but also can be split into an independent private space for holding business meetings, small salons and other activities.
The transformed Executive Lounge is a multi-functional scene that combines the functions of the executive lounge for business meetings and meals in the past, and at the same time gathers a small salon, afternoon tea, private telephone room, live broadcast room, semi-private meeting area and self-service bartending party, and can also be opened to external guests for consumption at the same time.
In this composite functional space, the designer's perspective switches from the perspective of design to commercial logic, giving the space operational transformation value, increasing the actual income of the hotel, and realizing the sustainable operation of the hotel.
The residential experience is the goal that Wanjing Century tried to achieve by enclosing the scene in this case. Through retro-shaped furniture and natural materials, designers have created single telephone booths, four-person enclosed private rooms, and multi-person boxes to achieve diversified transformations of different functional scenes and meet the various needs of different groups of people.
The interaction of light and shadow, nature and space is a highlight of space. The designers make the luster of old objects and the vibrant greenery of the old objects, and the impression of the city reach the realm of contrasting with the old and the new.
The contrast between the old-flower glass partitions, the parquet terrazzo floor, the rattan single chair and the modern metal lines highlight the modern meaning of old Shanghai, and there is also tranquility in the bustling.
Based on cost control and environmental protection considerations, the designer retained the original space in good condition and function, basically did not change the bathroom and wall wood finish. Under these constraints, the designers remodeled parts such as bed backdrop walls, movable furniture, video walls, and carpets.
The design continues the modern and retro green tone, with simple and modern lines to create a background wall, under the orderly cutting of geometric lines, extending the atmospheric pattern of the space and highlighting the sense of depth. In the selection of activity furniture, the designer replaces the previous simple and heavy style with modern appearance, simple lines, flexible and mobile smart furniture, providing guests with convenience and diversified scene modes. The high table bar counter in the corner suite, enclosed by the fabric sofa in a corner of the window viewing, will also incorporate the daily scene of the family house into the hotel mode, which can be business negotiations or leisure entertainment, close to the lifestyle of the new generation.

The logic of design is rooted in the anchor point of business, wanjing century with consistent strict cost control, for the customer's business system and goal transformation and consideration, but also for the user's experience consideration, to achieve a better visual effects and artistic perception of the modern hotel space.

Wu Gang Jerry Wu
Founder of Wanjing Centennial
Graduated from Ryerson University in Toronto, Canada, majoring in interior design, he founded Wanjing Centennial Interior Design Company in 2010. He was a former partner at HBA and has worked for HBA in Atlanta, Los Angeles, Dubai and Shanghai. After returning to China in 2009, he served as the general manager of the design department of Wanda Group Hotel Company, responsible for controlling the design effect of more than 70 hotels of Wanda Group and ensuring the smooth opening of 21 five-star hotels in 2010-2011.
With more than 15 years of experience in hotel design and clear positioning and analysis of domestic and foreign markets, he has built spatial aesthetics with sustainable development thinking and creative design methods, and has made great achievements in the field of hotel, commercial, residential, office, health and wellness project design.
