Many teachers in Japan have taken students to watch the Tokyo Paralympic Games

Japan's Chiba City Education Commission announced on the 29th that 6 teachers of a local junior high school were infected with the new crown virus, and two of them led students to watch the Tokyo Paralympic Games on the spot.

According to the Japan Broadcasting Association TELEVISION station reported on the 30th, two male teachers aged 40 and 5 at Beizuka Middle School in Wakaba District, Chiba City, led 18 students to take a bus to the Makuhari International Convention and Exhibition Center on the 25th to watch the Blind Gateball Match of the Paralympic Games. Another 37 students travelled to the competition venue in other vehicles.

The two teachers did not have any discomfort that day, and developed fever and other symptoms on the 27th and 28th respectively, and were subsequently confirmed to be infected with the new crown virus.

The Chiba City Education Commission said that the first confirmed case of the epidemic at Kaizuka Middle School was a female teacher in her 50s, who began to have fever symptoms on the 23rd and was confirmed on the 25th, but the school still organized students to watch the Paralympic games on the same day.

The school said that teachers and students wore masks when watching the game and maintained a safe distance according to regulations. According to the local health department, most of the students did not have close contact with the infected teachers or had close contact "more than 15 minutes" and were not close contacts. As of the 29th, no students reported physical discomfort.

Like the Tokyo Olympics, the Tokyo Paralympic Games do not allow general admission. However, the organizers made an exception to set up student viewing programs to enhance young people's understanding of the Paralympic Games. The Chiba City Education Commission said it would continue to organize students to watch the competition.

One of the infected teachers at Beizetsa Middle School receives student consultation during the summer vacation and contacts about 100 students. In total, about 120 students and 30 faculty members will be tested for COVID-19.

Chiba City is located in the Tokyo Metropolitan Area of Japan and is the capital of Chiba Prefecture.
