At about 2:50 a.m. on June 23, the police at the Banlashan Checkpoint of the Guyuan County Public Security Bureau were on duty and found suspect Zhang Mouping driving a small passenger car (Jin B*****) from the direction of Inner Mongolia, and found a large number of live young birds in the trunk of the car.
The police of the Forest Police Brigade of the Guyuan County Public Security Bureau rushed to the checkpoint overnight, immediately conducted a surprise interrogation of the suspects, and identified the live young birds. After identification, there are 68 live young birds on the vehicle, all of which are wild Mongolian larks of the lark family, which is a national second-level key protected animal. During the interrogation, Zhang denied everything and refused to cooperate with the investigation on the grounds of being unwell many times.
In order to find out the facts and fix the evidence, the police immediately set up a special case team, coordinated and linked up with multiple police departments, and on the basis of continuing interrogation, followed the line of investigation, dug deep into clues, and traveled to Hunan, Shanxi, Inner Mongolia and other places for six consecutive days and nights without interruption, and successfully arrested Yu X and Han X who hunted and sold Mongolian larks to Zhang in Xilinhot City, Inner Mongolia, and once again seized 12 Mongolian larks, a wild living body. In the face of ironclad facts and evidence, the suspects Zhang, Yu and Han finally gave up their denial and successively confessed the facts of the crime. On June 27, the police arrested another criminal suspect, Wang Mou. At present, all four suspects have been arrested.
On July 20, the Guyuan County Public Security Bureau and the Guyuan County People's Procuratorate officially handed over the lark cubs involved in the case to the Kangbao County Gull Wildlife Conservation Association, and released them back into nature after feeding and rewilding training.
