Out of the virtual, AI research shines into reality
In 2016, Wang Lu, a first-year Doctorate student, overheard the news of AlphaGo's victory over humanity on the Internet. On a whim, she wanted to find an answer to these questions. "AI should not only stay in the virtual and simulation environment, but should go out of the movie, out of science fiction, out of people's imagination, into the lives of the public."
However, research in this area is rare, and she has not been able to determine the direction of research. In order to understand the basics, a 519-page Research Learning: An Introduction, Wang Lu repeatedly read more than 50 times in a year.
In 2017, she participated in a seminar on the theme of "Reinforcement Learning for Multiple Agents" and gradually clarified her research direction. Soon after, Wang Lu threw out her first paper on reinforcement learning for solving dynamic treatment options. This paper was finally included in KDD, the top conference on data mining, which is also the first time that the research results of East China Normal University have been included in this conference.
During her studies, she also applied her AI research results to agriculture and contract advertising, and advanced the practice of AI in the medical field.
In the summer of 2019, Wang Lu went to Xinjiang for field investigation in cotton fields
In the summer of 2019, Wang Lu followed Tencent's AI Agriculture Project to Xinjiang cotton fields for field investigation, and the team hoped to try to introduce reinforcement learning algorithms in Xinjiang drip irrigation technology. Although the precision drip irrigation technology of Xinjiang's cotton fields is already the world's leading level, Wang Lu still hopes to use science and technology to help Xinjiang and make Xinjiang's products go to more places in the world.
Later, the algorithm was piloted in the greenhouse of Wagengen University in the Netherlands and the greenhouse in Liaoning, and high-yield cucumbers and tomatoes were grown. Let ai shine into reality, this is Wang Lu's insistence.
But Wang Lu said that her success is actually only the epitome of thousands of doctoral scientific research experience, her doctoral brother Wang Chengyu, doctoral roommate Zhang Xiaoen, are the recipients of the principal's scholarship. "In the time I spent with them, I witnessed their vulnerability and courage countless times, which also inspired me to move forward."
Peer-to-peer exchanges and attempts to collaborate across fields
Wang Lu confessed that she came from the countryside and was never afraid of hardship. Over the years, in addition to studying, I have also insisted on work-study, tutoring, going to the mall to sell clothes for the New Year, going to restaurants to sell new drinks and so on.
During her ph.D., she was shortlisted for Tencent's Rhinoceros Elite Talent Training Program, gained two years of valuable joint training experience, and began to have a good internship income.
Wang Lu participated in international academic conferences
But she is still happy to work as a volunteer at the International Conference. "Computer update iterations are rapid and conference review cycles are short, so research results in the field of computing are usually published at international conferences. Every time I have an article, I actively apply for conference volunteers. ”
The work of the conference volunteers is quite trivial and seems to be meaningless "miscellaneous". For Wang Lu, all the volunteers are participants, so this is a valuable opportunity to communicate with researchers from all over the world. "Everyone will talk about academics together and discuss the possibility of future cooperation," Wang Lu said, adding that she still has close cross-disciplinary cooperation with a volunteer she met in 2018.
Colorful, "live well and do a good job in scientific research"
In September 2019, Wang Lu was funded by the school's graduate students to study abroad and began her one-year visit at Georgia Tech.
Most of the laboratory partners and dorm roommates are excellent students from various universities in China, who have strong mathematical skills, programming foundations and English writing skills. "Most of the time people are discussing academics, eating and eating and starting to discuss academics, shopping and shopping and starting to talk about academics, in such an environment, it is difficult to think about whether to concentrate or not," Wang Lu said.
In addition to scientific research, Wang Lu is also experiencing the joy of life, "After all, a good life can be a good scientific research!" "She has many hobbies and interests, almost becoming a badminton national second-level athlete in high school; she liked to read when she was in college, minored in Chinese language and literature with a double degree, dreamed of becoming a writer; and is now fascinated by cooking."
When isolated in a foreign country, Wang Lu, who had never chased the star, had her own love bean - Wang Gang, a Sichuan chef blogger. She also has her own understanding of cooking, "red case is an art, white case is a science", specifically the knife work depends on the feel, the fire depends on the touch, and the saltiness depends on taste.
Wang Lu constantly thinks in practice, and she never stops clarifying her self-awareness. "I think it's more important to achieve your dreams than anything else." She once gave up her million annual salary and decided to choose for herself.
When she first started her Ph.D., she planned to graduate and stay at a university as a teacher. Now that she is about to graduate, Wang Lu's self-conscious ability is not enough to take students to do research. Therefore, I plan to hone my postdoctoral training for a few years, and then return to colleges and universities after my ability meets the standard, hoping to learn from students, climb the peak together, and write papers on the land of the motherland.
